In his letter to the churches of Galatia, the Apostle Paul wrote, “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree…’”

This single verse of Scripture will be our focus on Sunday. I hope that as we understand it, we will be in a better position to understand the cross.

In Galatians 3, Paul puts forward several arguments to advance the thesis of his letter—a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ. These arguments have helped generations of Christians understand Abraham’s faith, the way that Christ took the curse of the law on the cross, God’s intention for the Torah, and who it is that are the true sons of God.

Have you ever succumbed to peer pressure?
Are you a people-pleaser and find it hard to say, “No”?
Are you codependent with someone?
Do you control your life in such a way so people will not think bad of you?

We all struggle with the problem of fearing others. We are all concerned with what others think about us and often we let what other people think dictate our actions. We will even behave contrary to our professed beliefs and act like hypocrites because of our fear of others.

This Sunday we will be looking at Galatians 2:11-14. It is an awkward passage. Paul opposes Peter to his face over Peter's fear of others and hypocritical actions. However, Paul doesn't confront Peter because he failed morally. Paul considers Peter's actions a gospel issue.

Join me this Sunday as we consider how to live in step with the truth of the gospel against the threat of fearing others.

This week we’ll be considering Paul’s conversion experience in which the risen Christ appeared to him and commissioned him to bring the gospel to the Gentiles. This event, along with the church planting ministry and subsequent letters to these churches (which make up approximately 30% of the New Testament), dramatically changed history. No wonder the Apostle Paul appealed to his unique calling when his credentials were attacked by the false teachers in Galatia.

His letter addresses gospel issues, truths that are vital importance for the church in every place and time.

Come ready to celebrate, alongside the children waving palm branches during our annual Palm Processional prior to the Gospel reading and sermon. Also prepare yourself to be shocked and perplexed by where Palm Sunday leads us, and why Jesus would weep after such a triumphal entry.
