Gen. 5:1- hope for salvation progresses genealogically
Gen. 6:9, 10- destruction is followed providentially by a new beginning
Structure of the History of the Flood:
A - Corruption and Violence in creation – 6:11-12
B - Resolve to destroy and building of an ark – 6:13-22
C – The Lord commands a remnant, “Come into the ark” – 7:1-9
D – Beginning of the flood – 7:10-16
E – Flood for 150 days, mountains covered – 7:17-24
F – God remembered Noah – 8:1a
E’ – Flood recedes 150 days, mountains appear – 8:1b-5
D’ – The earth dries – 8:6-14
C’ – God commands the remnant to “Go out of the ark” – 8:15-19
B’ – Resolve to preserve order and building of an altar – 8:20-22
A’ – Renewal of creation by covenant – 9:1-17
