We’re kicking off a new series in James!
We’ve just finished 17 weeks in the Sermon on the Mount, and James essentially picks up right where we left off, delving further into practical discipleship. We’ll spend the summer exploring how we can live the life of the kingdom of the heavens that is available to us now through Jesus!
The Sermon on the Mount is basically this amazing blueprint for the best possible way to live… but we can’t just live in the blueprint forever. We have to start laying some bricks.
Matthew 7:13-14 | The Narrow and Wide Gates
The call to follow Jesus isn’t just about “getting in” to heaven– it’s an invitation into the best possible kind of life, a life that’s available here and now! Jesus asks us to be intentional and to daily choose life in His kingdom.
Matthew 7:1-6
Condemnation = separation with the intent of isolating, excluding, and/or belittling. Jesus says that condemnation is like a plank that’s stuck in our eye– not only does it harm our perception, it actually prevents us from getting close to people! He calls us to drop the plank– to remove condemnation entirely. If there is NO condemnation in Christ, then neither should there be in those who call themselves His disciples.
12 minutes of bonus content sparked by the “Abundance vs. Scarcity” message on 4/10.
Matthew 6:24-35
Jesus addresses worry and anxiety in the Sermon on the Mount, which is really the symptom of a bigger question: Will we believe in the radical abundance of a generous God, or will we believe in the myth of scarcity? Do we believe there’s enough?
