Twice God invites Elijah to trust him, twice God provides, and Elijah's faith grows. When we see that faith is less like a switch and more like a muscle, it frees us from wondering whether we have enough and invites us to start exercising what we've got.

God promises to care for his needs, but Elijah is totally dependent on God and his grace. When we learn to hide ourselves in his grace, it frees us from performance and pretending.

When the church is strong, men and women are trained in doctrine, devotion, character, and skill. This weekend, we see how everyday people like us develop as disciples of Jesus.

You were never meant to do life alone. We live in the most connected age in history, and yet we're lonelier than we've ever been — and if we're honest, sometimes the church isn't much different. But following Jesus is not a solo pursuit. We need people who will encourage us, know us, and call us to become who God made us to be. This week we meet a man named Barnabas, whose friendship shaped one of the most important figures in the early church, and we'll see just how true this really is. We were created for community.

Church is a team striving toward a goal. In spite of her imperfections, church is a gift from God. A healthy church functioning as God designed brings joy, encouragement, challenge, comfort, and deep relationship.
