When we hear the word patience, we probably think of the virtue that enables us to wait. That’s one way of looking at it, but Spirit-led patience is also much more. Patience is longsuffering. It involves more than passive waiting; it is active forbearance. It is a deliberate willingness to put up with disagreeable things in pursuit of higher goals.

The fruit of "love" may be the best example. We cannot produce the type of love God desires without the leading and strength of the Holy Spirit. The English word love has a very broad meaning, but the Greek language was very precise. The love which the Holy Spirit manifests in believers is agape. This love is not a feeling, but a choice. It is the choice to be kind, to sacrifice, and to consider another's needs greater than one’s own (Philippians 2:3).

The fruit of the Spirit includes a peace that goes beyond that of salvation. It is a sweet relationship. We are called to His presence and called to be confident in that presence because we are His friends (John 15:15).

When we exhibit the kindness of Jesus, we are tender, merciful, benevolent, and useful to others. Every action, every word will have His flavor of grace in it. To maintain this attitude toward those we love is hard enough. To express kindness toward those who are against us requires the work of God
