We are not protecting our kids in school. All the current training focuses on drills defending against an attacker already engaged. We need to ask the question, "How did a lone shooter get on to the school grounds with a gun." We need to stop applying the law enforcement model to school protection. It has not worked. We need a model that focuses more on protection. Today people feel that violence is the solution that is best suited to solve problems, or more importantly to gain the needed attention they are not getting elsewhere, but can get on major media outlets or social media.

All we need to do is implement a federal program used to protect federal buildings since the Murrah bombing in Oklahoma City. This program has worked extremely well except for 3 incidents, Ft. Hood, Naval Center, and San Bernadino, but all these incidents were people who had an ID to enter and worked in the building. Protocols did fail to identify weapons on these people. But, this is all I can think of over a twenty year period. We need to retrofit this program to schools and fund it by taking money from the wall budget.
