On this episode I am joined by 2 amazing guests and we take a deep dive into Gambling Harms and how it affects the Black and Asian Communities.
What is Gambling Harms - Gambling harms are the adverse impacts from gambling on the health and wellbeing of individuals, families, communities, and society. These harms impact on people’s resources, relationships, and health. Negative effects can include loss of employment, debt, crime, breakdown of relationships and deterioration of physical and mental health. At its worst, gambling can contribute to loss of life through suicide. Harms can be experienced not just by gamblers themselves. They can also affect their children, partners, wider families and social networks, employers, communities and society as a whole.
Asma Akbar -Programme lead for the Preventing Gambling Harms in Diverse Communities programme at the award-winning education charity, YGAM, who work to inform, educate and safeguard future generations against gaming and gambling harms. YGAM provides free evidence-led training for professional who have care or influence over young people, including teachers, youth workers, community leaders and many more. You can book onto their workshops by visiting www.ygam.org or emailing [email protected].
