This week, Ryan and Mikey discuss the two films causing the biggest stir in Hollywood: Obsession and Backrooms. From two young directors who got their start posting short films on YouTube, these films have led to countless think pieces and truly wild results at the domestic box office.

Kane Parsons' Backrooms brought in over $80 million, breaking the record for the highest opening weekend from an A24 film. Backrooms tripled the opening weekend earnings of the previous record holder, Alex Garland's Civil War, which brought in $25 million in 2024.

Meanwhile, Curry Barker's Obsession earned 40% more in its second weekend and grew another 14% in its third weekend. Box office growth week over week is largely unheard of, let alone consecutive growth two weeks in a row.

This week, Star Wars is back! Ryan and Mikey review The Mandalorian and Grogu, the first film in the Star Wars franchise since 2019's The Rise of Skywalker.

Directed by Jon Favreau and co-written by Favreau and Dave Filoni, the new head of LucasFilm, the film received mixed-to-negative reviews in the lead-up to its release, with fans and non-fans alike agreeing that it's a bit of a nothing burger.
