Reel Natives - The Interviews Uncut

At Daybreak Star Radio, we love to highlight talented Native creatives. Recently, our hosts Red and Ronnie the Blue-Eyed Native interviewed Billy Luther, a celebrated writer, director, and producer. Here’s a snapshot of their conversation:   “Frybread Face and Me“ Billy’s latest film, “Frybread Face and Me,” tells the story of two Navajo cousins bonding over a summer in the 1990s. Inspired by his own experiences, Billy’s film has received positive reviews, with a 7.2 rating on IMDb. He shared, “It’s incredibly rewarding to see the positive response and know that people connect with the story.” “Dark Winds“ Billy also worked on the TV series “Dark Winds,” based on the Leaphorn & Chee novels by Tony Hillerman. Transitioning from film to TV was a unique challenge, but it allowed Billy to explore new storytelling techniques and reach a wider audience. Looking Ahead Billy hinted at exciting future projects, promising more stories that celebrate Native culture and experiences.
