  • Tony Ronalds - GO Interview
Tony Joined John on the Phone to talk his Music and career , We heard some tracks from “kilt”and The Australian Premiere of “GO” ( Tony Has allowed the songs to be on the Podcast) -https://www.tonyronalds.com/
Singer-songwriter Tony Ronalds, originally from Nova Scotia, Canada and now based in Sydney, Australia, has just released a powerful new track Go. Tony’s brand of emotive power pop-rock is brilliantly brought to life in this heartfelt genre-defying song that features a dynamic vocal performance and rich and luscious layers of sensory beauty. Yet the track has an irresistible driving rhythm and a stirring edge to it too. With a lyric that reflects a deeply personal moment in Tony’s life, Go expounds on the theme of intense love to create a soaring blend of country-tinged pop. As Tony says of the track:‘Once you realize you are not promised another day, you quickly begin to appreciate the days you are given’. Go is about escapism and commitment and unbridled dedication and a whole lot more.
Originally from Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia. Tony landed his first job as an On-Air Personality at the age of 15. Working as a student at CIGO, he would soon find the stage with his first band, ‘Kilt.’ From performing at a Raptors game in the Air Canada Center to the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC, Tony and his ability to connect has allowed him to take the stage in many different settings. Starting out in smoke-filled bars, soon it was festivals, and international tours performing over 200 shows a year. Yes, radio play, music videos, and television appearances would follow, along with 5 East Coast Music Award Nominations, including Entertainer of the Year in 2000. The quick rise would result in a much-needed break from the entertainment industry, and love would bring Tony to Australia, where he is releasing his first solo album, ‘GO.’
Growing up with a wide range of influences might explain his genre-defying approach to music. Grounded in Pop with Country and Rock tinged elements.
What stands out is his emotive vocals and the ability he possesses to connect through his songs.
Tony has focused on music again, and the results will speak for themselves.

  • The Mezcaltones - Mexican Hillbilly Surf Music - Interview
Back in March 2020 , on my Other Show’ The Country Mix 2BACR 100.9FM’ I was joined by Col Padre, from The Mazcaltones -They had just released there Album ‘Mexican Hillbilly Surf Music ‘ I thought ‘ The 90s to Now ‘ would love a listen, it’s just fun music check them out on any music site
Four guys dressed as cowboys and two women dressed like Spanish Mexican that you might find in a Quentin Tarantino movie - two guitarists, a bassist, a drummer a Crazy front man and a beautiful dancer/percussionist. Whilst their original songs have an alt country flavour with rich Cowboy guitar sounds reminiscent of another century the guitar tones also reach into the realms of 60’s surf instrumentals. The Mezcaltones perform a range of songs from Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez films as well plus pay homage to some of their favourites such as Waylon Jennins and Los Lobos.
To truly understand “what it is” with The Mezcaltones you have to see a live performance. Just before show time there is an atmosphere
a vibration that runs through the audience
an anticipation of something special to come
and it does. The Mezcaltones mount the stage to the thunderous theme from ‘The Magnificent Seven’ and the show begins. And it is a show
slick, edgy, almost dangerous with a talented and well-rehearsed band guiding you through Mimi and Cols antics. Col comes armed with a bag full of one liners and a voice lined with tequila. And Mimi
Mimi is contagious energy, exotic dance moves and a bag of tricks which include percussion, masks, scarves, belts, ribbons and more.
The Mezcaltones have previously played five Tamworth Country Festivals; Groundwater CMF; Sydney Blues & Roots Festival; Dashville Skyline Festival. They currently have three film clips being played on CMC. Check out their third and latest album ‘Mexican Hillbilly Surf Music’ released on Foghorn Records.
    THE MEZCALTONES are:
Don Juan – Texan Time Keeper with a Smooth Tequila Feel
Don Too (aka Col Padre) – Raspy Lead Vocals dripping with Desert Soul
El Shango – Lead Guitar possessed with tangy, psychedelic blues, magic finger licks
    Lucre – Filthy Lucre
Mimi – Spicy Seductress who shakes it like a Rattle Snake
Neralita – Queen of Southern Rhythm Strummin’
THE MEZCALTONES are inspired by way cool tunes from Tito and Tarantula, Dick Dale, Link Wray, Los Lobos, Santana and other artists from this genre.

  • Michael Burrows - Brand New Heartache - interview
Michael joined  John on the Phone to talk about his new Music - Brand New Heartache ,  we also spoke about his Previous Songs , including - Please don't cry ( with Neil Finn) and  Turn this Love around.
Michael is an Australian singer/songwriter. His music has been described as a fusion of folk, Americana and rock with hints of artists such as The Beatles, Wilco, Eagles and Ron Sexsmith. From intimate solo shows to full band performances, his songs are deceptively simple about complex things: love, family, home, and trust.
Michael's new single Please Don't Cry ( ft. Neil Finn) was recorded in NZ at Roundhead Studios a few years prior as part of an experience offered by Medicine Mondiale. Michael knew that opportunity had to be his and grabbed onto it with everything he had. He won and got to spend two days recording with Neil Finn. Neil chose two songs from a batch of demos and the final versions of these songs, especially Please Don't Cry have a warm and personal feel that Michael is so excited to share.
Neil worked with Michael on two songs Please Don't Cry and Hinges both of which also feature Neils vocals on the track. They were never released as Michael went to the US soon after to record his debut EP. Upon returning from that experience and release, Michael finished the Roundhead songs back in Australia working with old pals Gideon & Daniel Frankle who helped shape the track with extra instrumentation, lap steel by Ed Bates, Mixed by Tony Buchen (Courtney Barnett, Tim Finn) and Mastered by Steve Smart ( Vance Joy, Midnight Oil).
In the past couple of years Michael had been co-writing with Grammy-award winning artist Frank Myers ( All 4 One, Lonestar, Alabama). This songwriting resulted in an EP recorded at Ocean Way studios in Nashville. Produced by Frank Myers and Jimmy Nichols ( Faith hill, Reba McIntyre) the songs were recorded and mixed by Steve Marcantonio (John Lennon, J. Geils, George Strait, Alabama and recently Thomas Rhett, Taylor Swift and Steven Tyler)
The songs became Michael’s new EP ‘Turn This Love Around’.
Please Don't Cry re-recorded for the US market with a distinct Nashville tone was the first single released and In September 2018, Burrows released his second single "Turn This Love Around." The song debuted at No. 39 on Australia's iTunes Store, No. 2 on the iTunes Rock Chart, and No. 14 on Australian Independent Record Labels Association's singles chart.
The singles received light to mild rotations across commercial, independent and community stations. From ABC with Myf Wurhurst to Triple M, Triple M Country and album of the week for ABC Widebay. All 3 single releases have been picked up by Coles Radio ( Australia's largest digital station)
In January 2019, "Turn This Love Around" made its US premiere on Atwood Magazine and landed on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart for 5 weeks, reaching its peak at No. 24. The single's success carried over to his following single "Brightest Star," which peaked on the same chart at No. 25. Both singles became part of Burrows' debut EP Turn This Love Around, which was released in June.
Both Billboard tracks have also received significant radio play within the US in 2019 appearing on shows like 'The Jim Brickman show ( syndicated to 200's of stations), NPR's WLRN ( Folk & Acoustic Music Show) , Voice Of America  (measured weekly audience of more than 275.2 million people around the world), Acoustic Cafe ( RDR Radio, LLC) and hundreds of other commercial stations across the AC and AAA radio format.
Just recently Michael's songs made the official ballot for the Grammys 2019 for two songs ' Turn This Love Around ' ( Best pop solo performance & best pop vocal album) and ' Brightest Star' ( Best American Roots performance & Best American Roots song)
