As we return back to Exodus from Hebrews 7, we start the passage on building the tabernacle. Before Moses relates to the Israelites the first step that they are to take, he related that God told them to keep the Sabbath day and that whoever did work was to be put to death. This passage on the Sabbath is the only one that specifically says that you shall not kindle a fire on the Sabbath day, but I think from it we can understand the balance between resting and showing mercy. Moses then relates all of the things that they are to gather in order to be able to make the tabernacle, its furnishings and the garments for the priests. God prepares His people with the things that they need in order to do the work that He gives them as He had provided for these things on the way out of Egypt when they pillaged the Egyptians. Beyond that, He also provided men and women with skills so that they could do the work and all with such skills had the responsibility to do the work.

As election season approaches, it's worth asking what the Bible says about voting. After stating that Jesus Christ was a High Priest that was able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, He then describes the difference between Christ as the High Priest and the descendant of Aaron. Christ is holy. This word is not the typical word for holy, but is between holy and righteous in meaning as in He was right with God. Remember Aaron made the golden calf. His priesthood was not because he was right with God. Christ is not evil. Aaron led the people into idolatry with the golden calf and then he tried to control God later in the incident with Miriam. Christ was undefiled. All of the high priests that descended from Aaron were just sinners that needed their sins to be forgiven. Christ was separate from sinners. When Moses set up the tabernacle of the congregation outside the camp, Joshua went out there and never left. That is not the picture that we have of Aaron. Christ was made higher than the heavens. Christ ascended from the dead to sit at the right hand of the Father, while Aaron ended up in the grave. Christ as a high priest could sacrifice Himself for us, because He is not like Aaron and his descendants. They always had to make sacrifices for themselves, but Christ had no need to sacrifice for Himself. The priests established by the law were weak, not like the one established by an oath.

The Trinity is a firmly established doctrine of Christianity, but many people see the triune nature of God as a doctrine that while important does not significantly impact the world or how they understand it. We want to argue against that. The fact that God is one and yet three is fundamental to understanding His nature and so it should come as no surprise that the Trinity is manifested throughout creation. It is an important point of doctrine that in all existence, the -Trinity is unique and so we cannot explain the Trinity by examining created things. But the opposite of that is not true, as it says in Romans 1-20, -For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.- And while this does not mean that natural man can correctly understand the three persons of the Godhead or their eternal relationships, these properties and relationships of the Godhead shape the world and help those who truly know Him to better understand it. The writer of Hebrews continues to make the argument that Christ's priesthood is much better than Aaron's. His next argument is that it was established by an oath rather that by commandments in the law. God specifically swore that He would not relent, that Christ would be a permanent priest which makes Him a surety of a better covenant. The Levitical priests died. The priesthood of Aaron terminated with the temple. The priesthood of Christ continues forever because Christ established a covenant that would not fail. Christ continues to make intercession forever. The eternal intercession means that He can save completely. The Levitical priests could never do that.

After making the argument that since perfection did not come through the Levitical priesthood, a priest had to be called after a different order. the writer then makes the argument that since Levi was appointed under the law, the law must change for a priest to arise from Judah. Since Judah never officiated at the altar according to the law, that officiating as a priest cannot be the one established by fleshly commandments. Melchizedek wasn't established by the law, so a priest could arise according to his order wouldn't be established by the law, but established by an endless life. Because the Melchizedekian priesthood is not about the commandments of God, it can have a greater hope. Where the law didn't save anyone, nor the works of the law including the Levitical priesthood, the priesthood established by an endless life has much greater hope. Hope that we can actually draw near to God by being made righteous. Those of the order of Melchizedek seek eternal life, so their focus is to be conformed to the image of their High Priest.

A lot of people take science for granted. They assume that the process is set in stone and that people wearing lab coats who had gone to college for years will go into their laboratory or work on their computers and discover new truths and facts about the universe and that through trial and error and application, those new discoveries will eventually work their way down to the general public, changing our lives in subtle and occasionally, groundbreaking ways. But events over the last twenty years demonstrate that all is not as clear cut or set in stone in the world of science as many people think. Whether you consider the false discovery of the gay gene, climate change -the science formerly known as global warming- and its surrounding hysteria, the health policies of the coronavirus pandemic, or the rise and promotion of gender dysphoria, the cracks in the foundation of the kingdom of science are growing larger and more obvious by the day, and make it clear that all has not been well for a very long time.-In this episode we talk about what science actually is compared to how it is commonly presented to the world. We talk about how modern science has become political and driven by narrative rather than fact and how this has been going on for a very long time -at least since Darwin, almost certainly longer- We also discuss how science depends upon the nature of God and how he made the world to be consistent thereby allowing us to understand him and to discover those things that can be known through labor, observation, and experience. After the writer of Hebrews makes the argument that Melchizedek was greater than Abraham, he then argues that that means that the Melchizedekian priesthood is greater than the Levitical priesthood. He makes the argument because Levi received tithes from his brothers because it was commanded in the law. Not because he was better, but Abraham paid tithes and was blessed by Melchizedek because the lesser is blessed by the greater. Of course, the word translated blessed is used of men toward God, so it is a specific kind of blessing that is received by the lesser. If Abraham was blessed by God and Levi was figuratively in the loins of Abraham, then Levi must be less than Abraham who was less than Melchizedek. When the other tribes pay tithes to Levi, they are paying it to people who will die. Because there is no beginning or end of Melchizedek, when Abraham paid tithes it was to one who lives. All this to say, Christ could not come as a Levitical priest or He would be adopting the lesser priesthood. He had to come as a priest of the order of Melchizedek, since it is clearly a greater priesthood than that of Aaron. The Levitical priesthood is mortal. The Melchizedekian priesthood is eternal.
