The Apostle Paul exhorts us to live a peaceful and quiet life. This sounds like a life that is full of compromise. What can we do as Christians to be distinctive while still living out this call to be peaceful and quiet? How are we to conduct ourselves in our exile?

Nebuchadnezzar is used to getting his way and setting the terms of his reign. He has conquered nations, gods, and has plundered their temples. However, there is one thing that haunts the king. There is one tormentor that needs to silenced. He needs to know how to silence this one who is greater than the world ruler. Will he find this tormentor? Christ takes his seat on the mountain and begins to speak. We might think that this is a place that would give him a great vantage point for the crowd to see him. Is this the only reason Christ is on the mountain. What is the significance of mountains in Scripture?

Jerusalem's fall is a tragic event. It is an event where a tyrannical king, the king who sees himself as a lord who rivals the true Lord, and it seems that the Lord's redemptive program has fallen flat. Is the Tower of Babel destined to penetrate the heavenly fortress? How does Daniel 1 encourage us to see that God is still sovereign in the midst of Judah's turmoil? Can God overcome those who realize the ideal of fallen man?

Christ uses strong language to encourage the church to have life. HIs language communicates that we have the literally consume Christ in the sense that he is eaten like we would consume common food. We would drink his blood like we would find nourishment from water. What does Christ mean by these statements regarding our eating his flesh and drinking his blood?

We wrap up our series on Thessalonians. It is important to remember that the rabble of the city were agitators who did not like the gospel. They claimed to be part of the church, but did not embrace the substance of the Gospel. How can we be sure that we will persevere until the end? How does the grace of God encourage us to walk in Christ as we die to self?

The apostle Paul exhorts the church to rejoice always and in all circumstances. This is not very easy to do and we might want to just fake it until we make it. How can we find the strength or the encouragement to do this? How do we rejoice in all circumstances?

Our Lord celebrates the passover with his disciples. It is tempting to think that as the Lord celebrates the passover with his disciples that passover and the Lord's supper are exactly the same thing. However, when Christ takes the bread and the wine he does not ground the sacrament in the exodus, but in his work. This tells us that Christ is doing something unique: he is using this as a symbol to assure us that the new covenant is confirmed in him.

This is the last meditation in our series of God’s Pilgrim Citizens. We can be assured that our citizenship is in heaven because Christ has overcome in our place. We recall the tree of life and how the opening and closing of scripture shows the ultimate outcome of our victory in Christ.
