Series: X-Factors
Message: PRIDE: You Better Deal With It
(Proverbs 16:18)(NIV) Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.
WHY DEAL WITH IT?
A. Pride leads to DISASTER.
B. Pride ruins RELATIONSHIPS.
C. Pride keeps us from GOD’S BEST.
P.R.I.D.E. SAYS:
Put yourself on a PEDESTAL.
(Psalm 46:10)(NIV) He says, "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth."
(Exodus 20:1-6) (NLT) 1Then God gave the people all these instructions 2“I am the LORD your God,
who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery. 3“You must not have any other
god but me. 4“You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the
heavens or on the earth or in the sea. 5You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the
LORD your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. I lay the
sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third
and fourth generations of those who reject me. 6But I lavish unfailing love for a thousand
generations on those who love me and obey my commands.
(Proverbs 9:10)(NLT) Fear of the LORD is the foundation of wisdom.
Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.
Rarely is anything my FAULT.
(Romans 3:23)(NLT) For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God's glorious standard.
(1 John 1:8-10) (NLT) 8If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in
the truth. 9But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and
to cleanse us from all wickedness. 10If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and
showing that his word has no place in our hearts.
(James 5:16)(NLT) Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be
healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.
I can’t show any WEAKNESS.
(Matthew 26:36-39) (NIV) 36Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he
said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37He took Peter and the two sons of
Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38Then he said to them, “My soul
is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” 39Going a
little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may
this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
(2 Corinthians 12:7-10) (NIV) 7Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given
a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8Three times I pleaded with the Lord to
take it away from me. 9But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made
perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that
Christ’s power may rest on me. 10That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
DEGRADE others.
(Matthew 7:1-5) (NLT) 1“Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. 2For you will be treated
as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged.
3“And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? 4How can you
think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t
see past the log in your own eye? 5Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you
will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.
