Message: WALKING ON WATER

(Matthew 14:22-33) (NLT) 22Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake, while he sent the people home. 23After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.

24Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves.

25About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. 26When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It’s a ghost!”

27But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!”

28Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” 29“Yes, come,” Jesus said.

So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. 30But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted.

31Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?” 32When they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped. 33Then the disciples worshiped him. “You really are the Son of God!” they exclaimed.

34After they had crossed the lake, they landed at Gennesaret. 35When the people recognized Jesus, the news of his arrival spread quickly throughout the whole area, and soon people were bringing all their sick to be healed. 36They begged him to let the sick touch at least the fringe of his robe, and all who touched him were healed.

1. Jesus wants you to be STORM CONDITIONED.

(James 1:2-4) (NLT) 2Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

2. Jesus wants you to know this life is FULL OF TROUBLE.

(Matthew 14:24) 24Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves.

(John 16:33)(NIV) "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

3. Jesus wants you to know HE IS ALWAYS THERE.

(Matthew 14:25-26) 25About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. 26When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It’s a ghost!”

(John 14:16)(NLT) And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you.

(John 14:26)(ESV) But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

(Matthew 28:20)(NLT) Jesus says, “And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

4. Jesus wants you to LIVE FEARLESSLY.

(Matthew 14:27) But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!”

(Isaiah 41:10)(NLT) Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right

Does Jesus have your HEART and SOUL?

 

(Mark 12:28-31)(NLT) 28 One of the teachers of religious law was standing there listening to the debate. He realized that Jesus had answered well, so he asked, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”                            29 Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. 30 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ 31 The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”

(Romans 10:9-11)(NIV) 9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”

 

Are you a FAN or true FOLLOWER?

 

(Mark 8:34-38)(NIV) 34Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 35For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. 36What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? 37Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? 38If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

 

Have you accepted HIS MISSION?

HOW GOD USES YOU TO CHANGE THE WORLD

 

Every believer in Christ has been CALLED TO WITNESS.

 

(Isaiah 43:10)(NIV) "You are my witnesses," declares the LORD, "and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me.

(Acts 1:8-9)(NIV) 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” 9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

(2 Corinthians 5:20)(NLT) So we are Christ's ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, "Come back to God!"

 

 

Your personal LIFE will always SPEAK LOUDLY.

THINGS YOU MUST KNOW:

A. It’s not possible without GOD’S WORD.

(Romans 10:17)(NIV) Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

(2 Timothy 3:14-17) (NLT) 14But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught… 15…the Holy Scriptures…. have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. 16All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

B. It’s not possible without KNOWING JESUS.

(2 Corinthians 5:17)(NLT) …. “Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”

C. It’s not possible without GROWING IN CHRIST.

(John 15:5)(NIV) JESUS SAID, "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

(2 Peter 3:17-18) (NLT) 17I am warning you ahead of time, dear friends. Be on guard so that you will not be carried away by the errors of these wicked people and lose your own secure footing. 18Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All glory to him, both now and forever! Amen.

(Luke 2:52)(NLT) Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people.

5 THINGS GOD USES TO GROW YOUR FAITH

1. PRACTICAL TEACHING.

(Luke 8:10)(NLT) Jesus replied, “You are permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom of God. But I use parables to teach others so that the Scriptures might be fulfilled.”

(Matthew 7:28-29) (NLT) 28When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29for he taught with real authority— quite unlike their teachers of religious law.

(Matthew 7:24, 26) (NLT) 24“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 26But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand.

2. PRIVATE DISCIPLINES.

(Matthew 6:6)(NLT) But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.

(Luke 5:16)(NIV) Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.

(Psalm 1:1-3) (NLT) 1Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. 2But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night. 3They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.

3. PERSONAL MINISTRY.

(Romans 12:4-8) (NLT) 4For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If

your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

(1 Peter 4:10)(NIV) Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms.

(Acts 2:42-47) (NIV) 42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

 

Churches Fail When:

They aren’t built on a SOLID FOUNDATION.

 

(Matthew 7:24-27) (NIV) Jesus said, 24“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

 

They don’t let JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL.

 

(Matthew 16:18)(ESV) Jesus said… “I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

 

(Colossians 1:18)(NLT) Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything.

 

They become only INWARD FOCUSED.

 

(Matthew 9:36)(NIV) JESUS “When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”

 

(Matthew 28:19)(NIV) Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

 

(Acts 2:47)(NIV) …. “And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”

 

They refuse to WORK TOGETHER.

 

(Acts 2:44)(NIV) All the believers were together and had everything in common.

 

They have no GOD VISION.

 

(Psalm 29:18)(KJV) “Where there is no vision, the people perish….”

 

At Refuge You Will Always Find:

(John 4:23) (NLT) Jesus said, “But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth.

Encouragement

(1 Thessalonians 5:11)(NLT) So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.

 

(Hebrews 3:12-14) (NIV) 12See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.  13But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. 14We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.

 

(Hebrews 10:25)(NLT) And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

Faith

(Isaiah 55:8-9)(NLT) 8 “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.  9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.

 

(2 Corinthians 5:7)(NIV) For we live by faith, not by sight.

B. Devoted to THE FELLOWSHIP.

(Hebrews 10:25)(NLT) And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage

one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

C. Devoted to PRAYER.

(1 Thessalonians 5:17-18)(NLT) 17 Never stop praying. 18 Be thankful in all

circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

2. All believers must be AMAZED BY GOD’S MIRACLES.

(Acts 2:43) (NIV) Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the

apostles.

3. All believers must work TOGETHER under one VISION.

(Acts 2:44)(NIV) All the believers were together and had everything in common.

(Proverbs 29:18)(KJV) Where there is no vision, the people perish:

4. All believers must be COMPASSIONATE and UNSELFISH.

(Acts 2:45)(NIV) They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.

(Philippians 2:1-5) (NLT) 1Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from

his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? 2 Then

make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working

together with one mind and purpose.

3 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as

better than yourselves. 4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in

others, too.

5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.

5. All believers must sincerely LOVE EACH OTHER.

(Acts 2:46)(NIV) Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread

in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,

(1 John 4:7-12) (NIV) 7Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who

loves has been born of God and knows God.

8Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9This is how

God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live

through him. 10This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an

atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one

another. 12No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is

made complete in us.

6. All believers must keep giving GOD THE GLORY.

(Acts 2:47a) ….praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.

(1 Corinthians 10:31)(NIV) So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory

of God.

7. All believers must daily LEAD OTHERS TO JESUS.<

Message: Secrets Of Hope

1. God wants you to KNOW JESUS. (1 Timothy 2:3-6) (NIV) 3This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6who gave himself as a ransom for all people.

(Romans 3:23) (NLT) For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

(Romans 6:23)(NLT) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

(Ephesians 2:8-9)(NLT) 8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

(John 3:16)(NIV) For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

(Romans 10:9)(NLT) If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

(James 4:7-8) (NLT) 7 So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come close to God, and God will come close to you.  Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.

3. God wants to MEET with you.

(Exodus 33:7, 11) (NLT) 7Now Moses used to take a tent and pitch it outside the camp some distance away, calling it the “tent of meeting.” Anyone inquiring of the LORD would go to the tent of meeting outside the camp. 11The LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp…”

(Psalm 42:1) “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you my God.”

4. God wants to WALK with you.

(Genesis 5:24)(NIV) Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.

(Matthew 11:29)(The Message) Jesus said, “Walk with me and work with me - watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.”

5. God wants to do GREAT THINGS through you.

(Genesis 17:1-6) (ESV) 1When Abram was ninety-nine years old the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless, 2that I may make my covenant between me and you, and may multiply you greatly.” 3Then Abram fell on his face. And God said to him, 4“Behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be the father of a multitude of nations. 5No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations. 6I will make you exceedingly fruitful,

(John 10:10)(NIV) Jesus said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the fullest.”

Message: How To Deal With Adversity

1. EXPECT it.

(John 16:33)(NLT) Jesus said, “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world."

(1 Peter 4:12)(NLT) Dear friends, don't be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you.

2. PREPARE for it.

(2 Timothy 4:2)(NIV) be prepared in season and out of season;

(Ephesians 6:10-17) (NLT) 10A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

13Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. 16In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. 17Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

3. KEEP PRAYING about it.

(Ephesians 6:18)(NLT) Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.

4. REJOICE in it.

(1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)(NIV) 16Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

(Philippians 4:4-7)(NIV) 4Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

5. TRUST GOD ALONE through it.

(2 Corinthians 4:7-10) (NLT) 7We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. 8We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. 9We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. 10Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies.

(John 14:1)(NLT) "Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.

(Psalm 23:1-6) (NLT) 1The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need.

2He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.

6. Realize it’s always a TEST OF FAITH.

(1 Peter 1:7)(NLT) These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold--though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed

P.R.I.D.E. SAYS:

Put yourself on a PEDESTAL.

who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery. 3“You must not have any other

sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third

(Proverbs 9:10)(NLT) Fear of the LORD is the foundation of wisdom.

Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.

Rarely is anything my FAULT.

(Romans 3:23)(NLT) For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God's glorious standard.

(1 John 1:8-10) (NLT) 8If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in

the truth. 9But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and

to cleanse us from all wickedness. 10If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and

showing that his word has no place in our hearts.

(James 5:16)(NLT) Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be

healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.

I can’t show any WEAKNESS.

(Matthew 26:36-39) (NIV) 36Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he

said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37He took Peter and the two sons of

Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38Then he said to them, “My soul

is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” 39Going a

little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may

this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

(2 Corinthians 12:7-10) (NIV) 7Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given

a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8Three times I pleaded with the Lord to

take it away from me. 9But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made

perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that

Christ’s power may rest on me. 10That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

DEGRADE others.

(Matthew 7:1-5) (NLT) 1“Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. 2For you will be treated

as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged.

3“And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? 4How can you

think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t

see past the log in your own eye? 5Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you

will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.
