Vaughn Benjamin (August 13, 1969 – November 4, 2019) was a legendary reggae artist known for his prolific output, deeply intellectual lyrics, and spiritual presence. In 1989, Vaughn and his brother Ron Benjamin formed Midnite in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. The band became a cornerstone of modern roots reggae, known for its "naked and raw" sound and meditative, hours-long live performances. In 2015, the band transitioned into Akae Beka, a name taken from the Book of Enoch. Vaughn continued his prolific career under this name until his death. Throughout his career, he released over 70 original albums and recorded more than 1,500 songs, often without pre-written lyrics. Vaughn’s lyrics covered a vast range of subjects, including Rastafari spirituality, social commentary, political issues, economics, agriculture, and sacred geometry. He was noted for his ethereal, chanted vocals that many described as "spiritual" or "ancestral". Often referred to as "The Teacher" or a "Modern Day Prophet," he is widely considered one of the most influential figures in contemporary roots reggae.

Jimmy Cliff (born James Chambers; July 30, 1944 – November 24, 2025) was a pioneering Jamaican musician and actor credited with introducing reggae to a global audience. Cliff starred as Ivanhoe Martin in the landmark Jamaican film. "The Harder They Come," which is widely regarded as the catalyst for reggae’s international popularity. He achieved mainstream success with songs like "Wonderful World, Beautiful People" (1969) and "Vietnam" (1970). His 1993 cover of "I Can See Clearly Now" for the Cool Runnings soundtrack reached #1 in several countries. Cliff won two Grammy Awards for Best Reggae Album: Cliff Hanger (1985) and Rebirth (2012). Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted in 2010, he remains one of only two Jamaicans in the Hall of Fame alongside Bob Marley. In 2003, the Jamaican government awarded him the Order of Merit, the nation's fourth-highest honor.

Max Romeo (born Maxwell Livingston Smith on November 22, 1944) was a seminal Jamaican singer and songwriter who defined the sound of roots reggae. He began his career in the mid-1960s with the vocal group The Emotions. In 1968, he achieved international notoriety with the suggestive hit "Wet Dream." Despite being banned by the BBC, it reached the UK Top 10 and cemented his image as the "Original Rude Boy". By the early 1970s, he shifted his focus toward Rastafarianism and social justice. His track "Let the Power Fall on I" was adopted as the 1972 campaign anthem for Jamaican Prime Minister Michael Manley. In 1976, he released the masterpiece album "War Ina Babylon," produced by Lee "Scratch" Perry. It is widely considered one of the greatest and most influential roots reggae albums of all time.

Cocoa Tea (born Colvin George Scott, September 3, 1959) was a legendary Jamaican reggae and dancehall singer known for his smooth tenor vocals and socially conscious lyrics. He emerged in the early 1980s, gaining his stage name from his affinity for "cocoa tea" (Jamaican hot chocolate). His first major hits included "Rocking Dolly" and "I Lost My Sonia" (1983). A devout Rastafarian since 1985, his music often addressed global issues. Notable tracks include "Rikers Island" (addressing the prison system) and the controversial "Oil Ting" and "No Blood For Oil," which were banned in some regions for their commentary on the Gulf War.
