  • Kewanee Back When Artist Richard Estes
Several months ago, I stumbled over a story about an artist named Richard Estes. Kewanee was mentioned as his birthplace and it got me curious. I sent a message to our friend and Kewanee Back When co-host, Dave Clarke who just happened to recognize the name. In fact, he'd written an article in the Star Courier nearly 30 years ago about artist Richard Estes, born in Kewanee but having grown up in Sheffield. On this edition of Kewanee Back When, we reflect on Richard Estes, his unique artform, and the 6 Degrees of Kewanee, a phenomenon that both Dave and Sean have seen first hand: seeing something regarding Kewanee in a place where you don't expect it.

  • Wake Up Tri-Counties OSFSaint Luke Medical Center Flu Shot Clinics
It's that time of the year, time to get a flu shot. OSF Saint Luke Medical Center is committed to making this as easy as possible by going directly to the schools and setting up flu shot clinics for kids. This week, parents will be receiving in the mail, a consent form to let the school know whether or not, their child will be getting a flu shot at the upcoming clinics at each school in the Kewanee School District. We've said it before, and we will keep saying it as our guest, Nurse Jesses Sopiars, stated best, the flu shot does not give you the flu. You are not getting sick from the flu shot. That said, the flu shot is fully optional. Parents can choose not to sign the consent form and their child won't get a flu shot. The flu shot is highly recommended but it is not mandatory.
