Kewanee City Councilman Steve Faber is recovering from a remarkable surgery. Earlier this year, Steve Faber went into the hospital for a rare Double Lung Transplant, a costly and life altering surgery. Steve has thus far survived and is now working toward coming home. But, he is also still looking at a remarkable financial toll. That's why his friends have put together a benefit which will take place on Saturday, September 9th, at The Flemish American Club. The benefit will feature an auction, a pie auction, and a raffle for many different prizes and prize baskets. One of the big highlights is a chance to get a Tim Bryner carved Owl, a gorgeous piece that will be much sought after. Kathy Hand is one of the organizers of the event and she joined Wake Up Tri-Counties this morning on WKEI.

The first in what is hoped to become an annual event, the Kewanee Hispanic Heritage Celebration is set to take place on Saturday, September 23rd, at The End Zone Sports Bar on 3rd Street in Kewanee. Jessica Fornander and Juana Ponce joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to promote the event. They tell us that there will be live music as well as a D.J, incredible food and vendors. OSF Saint Luke Medical Center is now providing services for Eyecare patients in Kewanee. Dr. Stephen Eyler joined Samantha Rux on Wake Up Tri-Counties to talk about the kinds of Eye Surgery that will now be available in Kewanee. This includes Cataract Surgery and Dr. Eyler took some time to talk to WKEI about Cataract Surgery, what causes Cataracts, what is the treatment, and what other kinds of surgeries are available to patients in need of Eye Care beyond the usual vision tests or whether or not you need glasses.

The A & W Titans came up just short in a tough fight against the Stark County Rebels on Friday night. The game hinged one big decision by Coach Tony Gripp. With just over 2 minutes to go, the Titans scored a touchdown to bring the score to 21 to 20 in favor of Stark County. Coach Gripp made the bold decision to go for two but it did not go the way the Titans had hoped. Stark County's defense stacked up the Titans at the goal line and kept a 1 point lead. The Rebels defense then held off one more late charge by the Titans to win the game 21 to 20. After the game, Bob McKee and Tim Carstens talked about a close but tough loss for the Titans who fall to 1 and 1 on the season. Stark County moves to 2 and 0 on the year with the win.

The Kewanee Boilermakers defeated Erie Prophetstown 28 to 0 on Friday, September 1st, 2023. Following the game, Russ Hughes and Jeremy Peart ran down the stats, the upcoming schedule for the Boilermakers, and had to chance to chat with stars of the game Alex Duarte and Brady Clark as well as Coach Matt Taylor about moving to 2 and 0 on the season.

The I.R.S is more than just the people who handle your tax issues, they also work diligently to keep you safe from scam artists. They do this by staying on top of what scams are out there and warning you not to get caught up in them. Lauren Winebrenner from the I.R.S spoke to Wake Up Tri-Counties about the latest scams that criminals are using to try and take your money or your identity and how you can avoid them. We also talked to Lauren about special tax rebates specifically for educators who are going above and beyond in the classrooms. Teachers who are buying supplies for students are eligible for a $300.00 tax rebate and Lauren explains how to make sure teachers can take advantage of this tax incentive. Finally, don't forget, for those who filed for an extension on filing their taxes in 2023, the next tax deadline is October 15th, 2023.

The Henry and Stark County Health Department Environmental Services Department will be meeting with vendors leading up to Kewanee Hog Days this weekend. The goal is to certify that the vendors you are buying from this weekend are meeting the standards set forth in code at the Health Department. You can be assured that if a vendor is open at Hog Days they have been cleared by the Health Department as providing a safe product. In other news, it's official, The Henry and Stark County Health Department and First Choice Healthcare are coming to Toulon. The Health Department will be opening a clinic location to server residents of Stark County. The new location is in progress though no opening date has been set as yet.
