  • Countdown To Heritage Days - Real Pretenders
Every Friday in June leading up to Heritage Days, K-100 is showcasing the bands performing on the Pepsi Main Stage and giving you the chance to preview their music before showtime.
This week Sparks chats with Naomi Ashley and Ralph Baumel of Real Pretenders, who will playing the Heritage Days Pepsi Main Stage on Saturday, June 24th from 6:00 to 7:15 p.m.
    From their band description:
Real Pretenders are four Chicago music scene veterans with a passion for the hard-driving rhythms, catchy melodic hooks, soul-tortured lyrics, and back alley sex appeal that characterize the music of Chrissie Hyde & the Pretenders.

They aren’t a costume act; they don’t play the original members of the band as characters. Instead, these established players, with audiences of their own, have come together to thread the musical needle between faithfully rendering the Pretender’s sound and joyfully harnessing these timeless and lustful pop rock gems as a means to expressing their own musical identity.

Not only do they take on both the band’s classics and deep cuts, they also offer a new take on songs covered by the Pretenders, as well as those that perhaps might have been. Real Pretenders aren’t simply a tribute to the music of the Pretenders, they are a tribute to their essential spirit.

  • Wake Up Tri-Counties Kewanee City Councilman Steve Faber Needs a Double Lung Transplant
Kewanee City Councilman Steve Faber is in the fight of his life. Next week, following Monday's Kewanee City Council Meeting, a meeting he will lead in place of Mayor Gary Moore, Councilman Faber will travel to Northwestern Medical Center where he will undergo a double lung transplant. It's a rare and complicated procedure. It may also include a heart transplant if issues with Mr. Faber's heart emerge in the process of replacing his lungs. Regardless of these challenges however, Councilman Faber is putting his best foot forward. He wants Kewanee to know that you can still call on him as a Councilman and ask for his help. He's only planning to miss two Kewanee City Council Meetings while recovering from surgery and plans to return via Zoom as soon as doctors allow. The bottom line, he's not planning on going anywhere as a City Leader. If you'd like to help Councilman Faber with what will be a large amount of bills following his surgery, his friends have started a GoFundMe campaign on his behalf. Councilman Faber talked all about his challenges on Thursday's Wake Up Tri-Counties.
