When we talk about the system of Reiki and the five elements that it consists of, it often sounds as if each of these elements exists in isolation: meditations, precepts, hands-on healing, symbols and mantras and reiju. Which, if we think about it, we know is not true. How can we meditate without the precept be true to your way, or how could we perform reiju without the precept do not worry? The system supports itself. But also, the system supports life.

Recently I heard a eulogy for a group of firemen who had died during Black Summer, the terrible 2019 fires in Australia. The eulogy went: “You were the centre of the universe.”

My initial reaction was – how could they ALL be the centre of the universe? That is physically not possible.

But, of course, they were equally special, equally important, they WERE the centre of the universe that they existed in.

You must be moved to write a love note, and so I am. This particular love note is the gift from myself to those animals that have gifted me by just being.

To truly love is to share a reciprocal limitless openness with another. A purely boundless state of being that doesn’t hold grudges or seek revenge, but gives over to trust and faith. This is what I have come to realise is the experience of Reiki. In loving myself I give over to being in a state of Reiki, in loving others I do the same.

And so I begin the Camino…

Camino means path or way and there are a number of official Ways in Spain (many starting outside of Spain itself). I am walking the French Way, and I am beginning in the Spanish town of Astorga. Each of these Ways finishes in Santiago de Compostela, near the Spanish west coast. It is believed that the body of one of Jesus’ apostles, St James (Santiago), is buried here. That’s a long story, but for the moment I just want to discuss the idea of walking. The Archbishop of Santiago says that Santiago is not a destination as such, but that the actual Camino is the destination.

The Camino is a metaphor for life.

We often talk about hands-on healing and what it does and how it works. I’d like to relate it to a simple idea, and, for once, it actually has to do with the hands (a smile emoji should probably go here). The reason I say this is because many years ago we boiled down the elements of the system of Reiki to just five major points, and in doing so we took the emphasis off hands-on healing. Prior to this it seemed that many people thought that that was what “Reiki” was. Some people, for example, had no idea that there were actual self-healing practices such as the foundation meditations taught in the system. In naming five equal elements as requirements for studying the system of Reiki, we were recognising that a complete system was actually there for us all to benefit from.

I am open to receive whatever it is that I may need at this exact moment in time.
Intent is the initial, directed thought that flickers across your mind – often before you are even consciously aware that you have begun the thinking process. This directed thought sets a process in motion. It stimulates your energy to trigger an action. The action might be picking up a tea cup, talking to someone or beginning a personal healing process.
As an often unconscious act, intent can be vague and unclear or misdirected due to pre-set judgements and understandings that have accumulated during one’s life time. This can weaken one’s intent and the resulting process.
