EPISODE 2: WHERE DID THE SPARK GO?You still love each other… so why do you feel more like roommates than lovers?
The spark usually doesn’t disappear overnight.
It gets buried under work, children, exhaustion, stress, responsibilities, routines, life transitions—and all the tiny moments when connection gets pushed to later.
Until one day, you look at the person you love and wonder:
When did we become roommates?
In Episode 2 of Relationship Tea, Dr. Stephanie Bathurst and Kaitlin Weichert spill the tea on what intimacy actually is, why it changes in long-term relationships, and what couples can do when they want very different things from connection.
We’re talking about emotional intimacy, physical affection, sexual intimacy, friendship, desire, and the everyday experiences that make you feel chosen, known, wanted, and connected.
We’re also getting into one of the hardest intimacy dynamics for couples: when one person wants more affection, sex, or closeness while the other feels pressured, rejected, exhausted, or increasingly inclined to withdraw.
Because sometimes what looks like a sex problem isn’t really about sex.
It’s about the connection underneath it.
When you think you have a sex problem—but you actually have a connection problem.
We unpack how a couple can become so focused on the frequency of sex that they miss what has been happening everywhere else: less affection, less friendship, less curiosity, less emotional safety, less intentional time together, and fewer moments of genuinely feeling seen.
Great sex doesn’t automatically create intimacy.
Sex can be one powerful expression of intimacy, but intimacy is much bigger than sex.
Emotional connection, trust, friendship, affection, safety, vulnerability, curiosity, shared experiences, and feeling genuinely known all contribute to the relational environment where desire can grow.
Sometimes the path back to better sex doesn’t begin in the bedroom.
Create connection without asking it to become anything else.
Plan 20 minutes of intentional connection together this week.
No phones.
No television.
No multitasking.
And no expectation that it leads to sex.
Talk. Touch. Laugh. Sit outside. Take a walk. Ask each other something you haven’t asked in a while.
The goal isn’t to manufacture a spark.
It’s to give connection somewhere to exist again.
Intimacy isn’t something couples either have or lose. It’s something they intentionally create, protect, and rebuild.
The spark will naturally change across marriage, parenting, careers, stress, aging, exhaustion, and major life transitions.
That doesn’t automatically mean something is wrong with your relationship.
But intimacy needs somewhere to live—and if you want to feel like lovers instead of roommates, connection has to become something you actively make room for.
There isn’t just one way to feel intimate.

EPISODE 1: WHY GOOD RELATIONSHIPS GO BAD
You still love each other… so why isn’t it working?
Two people can genuinely love each other and still end up resentful, disconnected, sexually distant, emotionally exhausted—or having the same fight for the hundredth time.
So, how do good relationships go bad?
In the very first episode of Relationship Tea, Dr. Stephanie Bathurst and Kaitlin Weichert spill the tea on the patterns that can quietly turn connection into conflict.
We’re talking about communication loops, resentment, assumptions, keeping score, avoiding hard conversations, and why loving someone deeply doesn’t automatically give you the skills to love them well.
We’re also challenging some of the biggest myths about love: If it’s right, it should be easy. The right person should just know what I need. Good couples shouldn’t fight like this.
And when it comes to finding “the one”? We’re getting into why you may need to stop convincing people to choose you, start paying attention to patterns, and believe what people consistently show you.
Because sometimes the biggest threat to a good relationship isn’t a lack of love.
It’s what starts replacing the connection.
When you still love each other—but you don’t really like the relationship anymore.
We unpack how small frustrations, unmet needs, assumptions, avoidance, and unresolved conflict can slowly become the relationship itself.
Love is not a relationship skill.
You can deeply love someone and still lack the communication, emotional regulation, accountability, repair skills, compatibility, or intimacy needed to build a healthy relationship together.
Catch the pattern before you blame the person.
This week, notice one recurring negative cycle in your relationship.
Instead of asking, “What is wrong with my partner?” ask:
“What keeps happening between us—and what do I contribute to keeping this pattern going?”
Then identify one thing you can do differently the next time the cycle begins.
Healthy relationships don’t fail because people stop loving each other—they fail because unhealthy patterns replace healthy connection.
Love matters. But lasting relationships also require emotional safety, communication, compatibility, accountability, intimacy, repair, and two people willing to participate in creating the relationship they say they want.
There isn’t just one way to feel intimate.
