RiverLogic takes us through understanding ourselves. Literally getting outside of ourselves, changing our binary mindset, sit in the gray areas, and moving to understanding of others as we continue to understand ourselves.
The tips and techniques that Denise Blanc employs are well researched and will not only improve your ability to communicate, but also help make your relationships more productive and successful over the long term.

We all have heard the saying, “it’s not what you know, but who you know”. And let’s be honest the relationships we make are critically important to our personally lives, but most assuredly our professional lives. But what do you do when you find it difficult to create new relationships? And what is more how can you create relationships that truly make a difference? True you could join a meetup group, go to a networking event, but typically these events are forced impersonal and loud, and more often than not you can feel very alone. What is one to do?
Well in this episode of A New Direction Nick Gray joins us to talk about how to create “The 2 Hour Cocktail Party“. In this episode Nick coaches us on how to create an effective, intimate, fun party that truly builds real relationhips that translate into tremendous benefits for you personally and professionally. No matter what your age these small gatherings create huge dividends! You don’t want to miss this episode…in could be career changing and life changing!
Nick Gray‘s book, “The 2-Hour Cocktail Party: How to Build Big Relationships with Small Gatherings” is absolutely fantastic! The more I read it the more I kept saying, “I should do this”. By the end of the book, I was saying, “I need to do this”. After thinking about it, I put it on my calendar, and I am doing this! This book takes the pressure off of doing a long-drawn-out party. It takes the awkwardness out of those “networking” events. It puts you in the position where you are building real relationships that grow deeper that will positively impact you personally and professionally. Charlie “Tremendous” Jones is correct in saying, “Five years from today, you will be the same person that you are today, except for the books your read and the people you meet.” Nick Gray will get you on the way to change, because you will be doing both.

There is no doubt as humans we were made to connect with each other. Yet we typically overestimate our ability to connect. We think to ourselves we are great connectors, when the truth we are superficial. Sales people will talk about how they build “rapport”, but “rapport” is not true connecting, it is really a form of manipulation so that you can get what you want. The truth is when we truly make a connection we build mutual identification and trust. When we connect we truly find the person interesting whether they buy from us or not. When we are truly building relationships we are focused on the relationship and nothing more. We need help for sure! That is why on this episode of A New Direction author Barry Moline helps truly CONNECT!
In Barry Moline’s book, “Connect! How to Quickly Connect for Collaborate for Success in Business and life” He gives you multiple ways that you can connect with others that will lead to powerful relationships that lead to opportunities for both your business and your life. In this show we even talk about how sales people can use better questions that make them more likeable. We also talk about some ice breakers that are commonly not used, how to deal with controversy and so much more! There was a time when men and women had specific roles in their relationship. Typically the man worked at his job, and the wife stayed at home. While that seems archaic by today’s standards the fact of the matter was it actually made the relationship much easier and steadier because everyone knew their role, and as we often say today, “they stayed in their lane”.
Today’s relationships are much more challenging. More and more couples have their own careers and their own dreams and goals, they try to share not only the financial burden, but the responsibilities at home. While it is what we are accustomed to the fact of the matter is our ability to stay together in the relationship has suffered as we see a higher break up and divorce rate. Why? With all the sharing of responsibility how come it is not producing greater happiness and togetherness within the relationship?
It comes down to our male and female biological differences, mainly our hormones. The fact is men have 10 to 30 times more testosterone then women and women have 10 to 30 times more estrogen than men. We produce both, but when we are out of balance, meaning when men are producing to much estrogen they get stressed and angry. And when women get stressed it is because they have too much testosterone. How does this happen? Because as men and women are both working they are put in position where the women in her job starts producing more testosterone throwing her out of balance, while a man in his job is producing more estrogen throwing him out of balance. The result: A new dynamic in our relationship with each other. What are we to do? Thankfully Dr. John Gray the world’s #1 relationship expert (And author of “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus”) joins us no A New Direction to help us get not only our hormones in balance, but also our relationship.
His latest book entitled “Beyond Mars and Venus: Relationship Skills for Today’s Complex World” is stellar. It is an eye opening look at how our biological differences, combined with our work, combined with our other relationships affect us both negatively and positively. Dr. Gray also provides solutions to helping your relationships not only grow and thrive, but take it to the next level. “Beyond Mars and Venus” is in my opinion as absolute must read! If you want your relationship to grow and be out of this world, listen to the show, and get your copy of “Beyond Mars and Venus”.

It is no surprise that men and women are different. Not just our physiology, but how we communicate, handle stress, deal with conflict, the differences we see in relaxing, romancing, sex and more. So often we can go so frustrated with these differences we can live in misery, or eventually we may get to the point where we feel like we made a mistake. And the next thing you know we are ready to call it quits. Hold on! The difference in our marriage relationship is not hopeless, in fact it is normal. The truth is the very thing we love about our spouse is the thing that frustrates us about them. We have to take a different view of our relationship. We have to learn to understand the differences between each other, and once we do we can begin to work with each other as a team, rather than against each other as a potential enemy. Thankfully, Bill and Pam Farrel join us on this episode of A New Direction to help us renew our marriage relationship and not only make it better, but making it awesome.
Bill and Pam talk to us about their book “Men Are Like Waffles and Women Are Like Spaghetti“. The book discusses the most important issues like communication, dealing with conflict, the differences in how men and women view romance and sex, how we relax, how we deal with work and so much more! The book is a great read for anyone who is married, is going to be married, wants to be married, or just would like to know the differences in how men and women differ in so many ways in their relationships. In the book you will references to a workbook, with a link while the link may not work you can get the information from the workbook emailing Bill and Pam at [email protected] . Men Are Like Waffles Women Are Like Spaghetti is a great read and it will certainly help you in your relationship with your spouse.

Relationships. It really is what makes our life…life. Where would we be without them? Well, first of all you and I would not have been born so there’s that. But, our relationships do add spice to life, and in fact we relate to not just people, but animals, places and things. If you are married or have a significant other then you know how our relationships can affect us on the other person, if you have a sibling, there too, your relationships ebb and flow. If you have children, grandchildren, parents, friends, neighbors, colleagues at work, all of these relationships have some affect. So, how do we make the best of them and at the same time allow them to affect us in a positive way. Enter author/writer Beverly Mann Lessard on this episode of A New Direction as she takes us through some insights into relationships and how we can best deal with them.
In Beverly Lessard’s book Relationships she gives us snapshots, glimpses, and slices of her relationships. And in every slice there is a moral to the story, a point that when it’s done you must evaluate yourself and decide if you are majoring on the minors and minoring on the majors. Beverly is absolutely and totally vulnerable from her marriage to her grandchildren to the Dunkin Donuts people who know her by name and hand her Hazelnut Decaf Black coffee, to dealing with a baby ground who is eating her flowers and attacks her broom as she tries to shoo him away. Relationships as you can imagine are filled with warmth, joy, laughter, and ups and downs. A book I promise will lift your spirits.

Let’s be honest we have all come in contact with someone in our family or career who we just did not want to be around. Perhaps it is the whiner who lets you know about all the doom and gloom and that the world is in unfair and it is all crashing down around them. Maybe it is the martyr, you know, the one who feels as if after they have done so many things for you that your response back to them is not enough, and they believe you just don’t care. Maybe it’s that person in the office who waits for the perfect moment to disrupt the meeting with some snide comment, you know…the sniper. Maybe it’s the yes person who does everything for everybody but doesn’t get the work done you need to get done. All of these and other people who are people you just can’t stand.
In this episode of A New Direction Dr. Rick Brinkman co-author of the book “Dealing with People You Can’t Stand” enlightens us on how we have to deal with such people. We all want those people to change, but the truth is, we have to change first. And that starts when begin to understand that their intent may not be all bad. In fact, they, in their own way believe that they are being helpful to the cause. If you want these people to ultimately change, we will ultimately have to take a different approach. And rather than focusing on their change, we need to focus on how we influence those people to start altering their behavior in a more desirable way that we can get along. “Dealing with People You Can’t Stand” has sold over 2,000,000 copies and is a book that you will thoroughly enjoy and certainly learn from so you can better deal with those difficult people.
