This week, I got to to speak with Charles Mborah from Heidelberg Materials, one of the world's largest integrated manufacturers of building materials.

Our conversation focused on the challenges of implementing new technologies and changes in the workplace, the difficulty of attracting qualified personnel to the industry, and the importance of certain tools like oil analysis and condition-based monitoring in reliability engineering.

Charles also highlighted the importance of mean time between failures (MTBF) as a key performance indicator and how demonstrating the cost benefits of new approaches can help overcome resistance to change. Finally, we touched upon the need for a maintenance culture that involves everyone on the team.
