Impact Questions

1. Read Revelation 3:1-6. What has caused the church of Sardis to become spiritually dead in the sight of Christ? How do we see this same thing today with our churches and the worldly culture?
2. What does it mean that Jesus holds the Seven Spirits (Is. 11:2)? And why in Rev. 1:16 is it important to understand the seven spirits and the two-edged sword that is spoken of?
3. Sardis compromised and conformed their teaching of Jesus to fit the culture and for their comfort and protection. How do we see this today as well? Why is this a scary thing to do?
4. Compare Sardis and their spiritual state to Paul and how Paul taught Jesus Christ (Acts 17)?
5. How do we know if Jesus Christ is being taught properly? And if he is not what demands does Christ give the church of Sardis and for us to obey today? (Rev. 3:2-3).
6. For those who believe the true gospel and the true Christ what is the hope we hold to? (Rev. 3:4-5)

1) Read Revelation 2:18-29. Why do you believe our society at large wants to devalue the belief that there is objective/absolute truth?
2) In verse 18, Jesus describes himself in his role as judge. This references back to Rev. 1:14-18. Why is it important to understand Jesus as loving/gracious but also as authority/judge?
3) How does an accurate view of Jesus help us live fruitful lives?
4) The false teacher "Jezebel" taught and seduced Christian's to believe that sexually immoral practices were okay. How is false teaching (lies) seductive and deceptive?
5) How can we identify false teachers or false teaching around us?
6) What is a common false teaching on sex that is in our society today and what makes it false?
7) How does the Bible teach us to defend against sexual immorality? (Gal. 5:16-17; Rom. 13:14; Matt. 5:27-30)

1) Read Revelation 2:12-17. When you hear the word tolerance or intolerance, what does it make you think of? How has its meaning changed over the years?
2) Verse 13 reveals that Satan dwelled in Pergamum. What does that reveal about Satan's nature?
3) What was the church of Pergamum tolerating?
4) What is the teaching of Balaam (Nicolaitans) and why was it wrong?
5) How does tolerating sin hurt people?
6) How can the church repent of this tolerance?
7) How can we pray for one another in this area of tolerating sin?

2) Read Ephesians 4:1-6. According to verses 1-4, how does the Church achieve unity and peace?
3) Why would it be difficult to achieve peace with others if you don't have peace (right relationship) with God?
4) What does it look like to bear with one another in love (v.2)?
5) Read Ephesians 4:15-16. What makes speaking the truth in love so hard?
6) Why is it more important that you speak the truth in love than to have "peace" with others?
7) How can we pray for one another in this area of peace and unity?
