Bryan Fischer here with today’s Life & Liberty Minute. Jack Lucas is a name worth remembering on Memorial Day. After Pearl Harbor, Jack, at age 14, begged his mother to help him enlist in exchange for a promise to someday finish school. When his unit boarded a troop ship for Iwo Jima, he stowed away instead of reporting for guard duty so he could join a combat unit. Just after his 17th birthday, he hit the beach and a day later was fighting in a Japanese trench when he threw himself on two grenades which landed near his comrades. Assuming he was dead, a medic started to take his dog tags when he saw a finger twitch. After months of treatment and recovery, he returned to school as promised, and entered the ninth grade with a Congressional Medal of Honor around his neck. We owe our freedom to such warriors. Father, we thank you for giving America men like Jack Lucas.
