Jesus is the the Gift; Jesus is coming back!

“For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭9:6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Have you ever received or opened a gift that was never for you?  How did you feel when opening it?  2000 years ago, this is how many Jews felt opening the gift of Jesus, which they believe was sent erroneously. 

For many the Messiah would arrive on a golden throne, but many had not understood His mission to save them from their sin.  This is why in Luke we find a strong emphasis on the Great Reversal.  This theme reminds us that this gift unwrapped in Bethlehem was not for the proud, or the powerful, but for the humble and hungry for righteousness.  God's gift for humanity is not tagged for those that don't see a need for Him, but rather for those that realize their brokenness and hopelessness apart from Him.

What do we celebrate on Christmas day, and what is the gift that God has provided to all of humanity?  Why was the birth of Jesus such a momentous turning point in the history of all humanity?  This month we will discover what Jesus meant to our world, and how we can all enjoy the beauty of this gift.

How important is creating habits of gratitude? As we draw close to Thanksgiving Day, we are reminded that most Americans wait once a year to cram in all of their gratitude for the year. However, the Bible is very clear in reminding us that gratitude should be a daily habit that we cultivate. Then, and only then, will be prepared to not just be grateful in the good moments of our lives, or when we receive things that we want, but also in those dark moments of testing as well.

Today we discover the path from grumbling to gratitude. We imagine that you experience dozens of things, which we could complain about. From being treated unfairly, to suffering from health problems, it's easy to sink into the role of grumbler. However, is there a way that we could redirect our energies to being more grateful, despite our circumstances?
