Messianic Rabbi John Powledge continues his series on The Just Society, but with a side trip. A mikvah (baptism) scheduled for today caused Rabbi John to write about immersion as cleansing. Included in his teaching is the story of Elisha the prophet and Naaman, a high-ranking warrior with leprosy, from 2 Kings 5.
Messianic Elder Joe George gives the reading and message for today's Torah Service, which is from Numbers 29:12. Although the reading concerns offerings at the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot), Joe's message is wide-ranging, and includes a discussion of why so many Gentiles are attending Messianic Jewish Synagogues.
Messianic Rabbi John Powledge continues his series on "The Just Society", talking not only about what a just society is not, but also about what features identify a just society, and how these features are biblical.
Messianic Rabbi John Powledge continues his series on what is a just society. He talks about the ten commandments and how they must be central to any society that claims to be just.
With the completion of the US election of 2020, and the inauguration of 2021, there has been much talk in recent months about social justice and human ideas of how to make a society more just; but what are God's ideas on this subject? Messianic Rabbi John Powledge begins a multi-part series on "The Just Society". Rabbi John also comforts his listeners that things get better from here, as next week we go on to describe features of societies that are closer to God's plan and purpose. Also two testimonies about abortion are heard at the end.
Since there was no traditional message this week, instead we offer some selected portions of Remnant's January 16, 2021 Sabbath Service and Torah Service. If you have never attended a service at Remnant, these are some things that you might hear. The Sabbath Service and Torah Service is conducted by Messianic Elder Philip Snell, with the Torah reading given by Messianic Elder Joe George. The Torah portion is from Numbers 22, and includes the story of Baalam and his talking donkey, which Joe tells in an amusing and informative way. Messianic Rabbi John Powledge gives the blessing over the children.
In his message this week, Rabbi John acknowledges the turmoil in the country following the election of 2020, but he also reminds us of the story of Esther, where God called Esther to risk her life to save her people. Rabbi John points out that God has called each of us to some task that God wants us to carry out, and says that it is no accident that we are here because God has brought us here for just such a time as this.
Messianic Rabbi John Powledge tells us how Joseph of Egypt succeeded in the task that God set before him, and how this is relevant to us today. Rabbi John explains that Joseph of Egypt: 1) believed that God had given him, and would continue to give him, knowledge of what would happen in the future; 2) Had faith that God would fulfill his promises; and 3) Kept God's moral laws so that he was not distracted from his mission.
In an unconventional end-of-year message, Messianic Elder Philip Snell talks about the negative (and also the positive) events of 2020, and shows how God is directing the flow of events. Many Remnant members come forward to offer their thoughts on the title subject.
This week's message is not a message in the usual way, but is a portion of Remnant's Saturday Sabbath Service, which on this day is a Torah Service, and also is the Bat Mitzvah b'Yeshua of Reagan George. She gives the Torah reading for the Torah Service, and is immersed in the mikvah (baptized). Also, the Snells ask for prayers for their neighbor, Vera.
