DIG IN QUESTIONS

In light of this week's message, we encourage you to consider these questions and dig in a little deeper with your personal study, with your family, or with your small group.

Read Matthew 5:27-30 & Matthew 18:7-9

1) What negative effects can the sins that we choose to hold onto have on our lives? What about on others, especially children and those still young in their faith?

2) What are some things in your life that you have had to remove because they stood in the way of your relationship with Jesus? Was it difficult? Was it worth it?

3) In the teaching it was said that the removal of the things that cause us to sin could be awkward, inconvenient, costly, or embarrassing. Can you give some examples of what that might look like? Are there ways that you personally have experienced these outcomes?

4) We all know that the eye and hand and foot are not the problem and that cutting them off really won’t fix anything. Where does the problem of sin actually lie? What is the remedy?

5) Why is this teaching so important that Jesus thought it was worth repeating and why was the example he gave so strong?

6) Every time Jesus spoke these words about removing the things that cause us to sin, he knew that one day he would die on the cross so that those sins could be forgiven. How does knowing this truth help you in your desire to overcome sin?
