It is easy to want the "Instagram version" of the life of Jesus, including the peace and the resurrection power. However, to truly follow Him is to know Him, which means counting the cost and walking the road He walked.

We will hike through Psalm 66 together, using its verses to "Selah" as we behold Jesus.

So far in our Selah series, we’ve visited homes overwhelmed by stress and homes in seasons of success. But in every neighborhood, there are also homes that may look fine on the outside, but inside something has gone terribly wrong. Homes that are in crisis, overwhelmed by loss, fear, and pain.

This Sunday, we’ll drop back into the life of Jesus, right when he is experiencing the greatest crisis moment of his life. We’ll see how he responds to that moment, and learn to Selah alongside him in another psalm—this time, Psalm 77.

Whether it’s every once in a while, every day, or every moment, if you’re experiencing loss, fear, or pain, this Sunday we’ll learn how to follow Jesus’ example as he found Selah in crisis.

We started our new series with a visit to a home filled with chaos and stress. If we kept walking those same streets, in the same neighborhoods, we could step into homes that have a different dynamic. Not chaos and stress—but success.

Not to minimize real suffering that happens all over our church and community but, for many of us, modern life is pretty good. And when things are good, we’ll often find that we have grown complacent in our spiritual lives. It’s not that God is rejected. He’s just edged out. Pushed to the fringes.

We need some Selah in our lives.

This week, we’ll drop back into Jesus’ life during a season of great success, and we’ll notice the way he lives his life. Then we’ll find a spot next to him, meditate on the words of Psalm 46, and let that psalm guide us toward more Selah in our own lives.

Now that we’re on the other side of the Christmas season, it’s a good time to check in and ask, “How are you really doing?”

If you’re like most American families, you may be feeling the stress of modern life. Whether at home or work, most of us experience times when that stress rears its head as anxiety or resentment, impatience or anger.

Contrast that with the way Jesus lived. How was he able to interact with so many people, meet so many needs, and yet remain totally yielded to God?

When we read Scripture, we sense the peace in his soul, and we witness the patience, gentleness, and care he had for others.

How did he do it? I believe the secret to his life comes from a practice that we’ll look at this Sunday as we begin our week of prayer series—Selah.
