We are joined by guest speaker Ted Leavenworth of Reliance Church as we look at the third of four themes of Advent, love. Mary was highly favored and a recipient of God’s love. In turn, Mary responded with her own demonstration of love to God as she lived a life marked by by on-going responsive worship. Just like Mary did, we can continue to respond to Him to discover and experience His grace and will for our lives.

Just as the holidays cause spikes in anxiety and negative feelings for some, the time leading up to and after Jesus' birth sent Joseph through the same struggles. Joseph was the husband of an ostracized woman, father to a child who was not his own, and a carpenter in a small town turning their backs on his family. Joseph found the courage and ability to move forward because of God given peace that Joseph could not find anywhere else. Joseph was shown that God's fingerprints were all over his life and Joseph surrendered to Him.

When Jesus was taken to the temple, a man named Simeon prophesied over Him and Mary because Simeon knew who he was holding as a baby. Simeon. rightly predicted the polarizing nature of Jesus, because people would not stay neutral about Him and the pain that would come to those close to Him. As we turn back to reflect on Jesus' first coming, we can be confident knowing we have biblical hope because the price of our salvation has been paid for and wait with anticipation of what will happen at His second coming.

We look at Psalm 22 and the peace that we can find during times of suffering. Sometimes, when we try to comfort those who are hurting, simply being present and patient with them can bring comfort. Other times, we can share our own story of suffering and redemption through similar things and provide a different kind of care, and hope. in a similar vein, Jesus willingly suffered and gave everything to bring about hope and rejoice for us all

We look at Psalm 3 and the peace that David finds in the Lord during a time of great stress and worry for him. Like David, we too can experience times where we feel trapped in our situation and have no options out. But we can look at David as an example for how we can find find peace and hope in the promises the Lord has made to us.

Like David, we too can take comfort in knowing we have a good shepherd because we know our Shepherd is powerful enough to protect us, and personal enough to care and love us. Like sheep reflect the quality of the care and protection of their shepherd, we too are examples to the world of the good shepherd we have and the great care and love He has for us.

That unity in the church is good, pleasant, and desired by God. Unity in the church is unique and of the kind not encountered anywhere else. It is through God's grace poured out on His church that we can experience the beauty of unity. Ultimately, there is much more that we share in common and outweigh differences.

This week, we begin our new series in the book of Psalms, titled "Longing for the Savior" by starting in Psalm 1.

Everything in our world is always progressing and changing, even ourselves. We are cautioned against walking in the path of unrighteousness, because we will only progress down that path until we find ourselves mocking those who are righteous. Instead, we are exhorted to be delighting and meditating on the instruction of the Lord and be in this self strengthening cycle. Rather than have our happiness rely on the circumstances of life that will change, Psalm 1 show us that the happy ones are those delighting and meditating on the instruction of the Lord.
