Renewed Mindsets: Don't Conform-TRANSFORM

Send us Fan Mail

Do you ever feel like you're just coasting in your spiritual life, stuck in a rut of complacency? Let's change that.  Let's get to the heart of the matter by drawing a line in the sand between complacency and contentment. Complacency, with its self-sufficiency and skewed self-perceptions, can leave us spiritually stale. But contentment? That's where the joy and growth bloom, as we uncover the four telltale signs of complacency that might be sidelining your spiritual growth. Together, we'll explore the importance of continual dependence on God and discover practical ways to keep complacency from taking root.

Complacency, however, isn't just an individual issue. It can seep into the very fabric of our churches, stifling growth and progress. So, let's roll up our sleeves and tackle this issue head-on. We'll talk about ways to communicate the spiritual insights God is speaking to us, maybe through a blog, a podcast, or even a YouTube channel. We'll also identify five key signs of church complacency - from our reluctance to face challenges, to being content with past successes, and more. It's time to open our minds to fresh ideas, and not let pride barricade our progress. Let's dream, let's strive, and let's invigorate the future of our churches. I promise, this is a conversation you don't want to miss.

That's the transformative power of Christ's mercy we're unpacking in our latest episode, where we go beyond the typical New Year's resolutions. Together, we're embarking on a spiritual journey that doesn't just start with the bang of fireworks at midnight. Instead, it's a daily renewal of our mindsets, steeped in the teachings of Christ, to confront our sins and embrace repentance. I invite you to reflect on the deep connection between the mercy we receive each dawn and the strength to make life-altering decisions—be they in our personal relationships or career paths. Through the lens of scriptures like Lamentations 3:22-23 and Hebrews 4:15, we explore the divine support that bolsters our resolve to live with intention, and how every day is indeed a precious gift from God.

As we wrap up this episode, I'm immensely grateful for the time we've shared in pursuit of a Renewed Mindset. Imagine journeying through time, uncovering the roots of beloved Christmas traditions and peeling back layers of symbolism tied to this joyous season. That's just what we, your hosts Rick Yuhas and Jelena McClellan, will be doing in this engaging episode. Drawing from Jelena's Germanic background and Rick's American upbringing, we share personal experiences and insights into both German and American Christmas traditions, revealing how they've shaped our current holiday customs. We'll also take you on a poignant trip to Bethlehem, retracing the steps of Mary and Joseph, and casting light on their faith-filled journey.

Ever wondered about the spiritual significance of Christmas lights? We'll shine a light on that and more, as we delve into the birth of Jesus as the light of the world and its parallels with modern traditions of lighting up homes and streets during this festive season. Through the tales of a seeker and an outcast, both in search of the promised Jewish Messiah, we'll discuss the role of shepherds in the biblical narrative, and how these stories resonate with our lives today. At the heart of our conversation lies the true spirit of Christmas - love, joy, unity, and peace - and how we can all contribute to spreading these virtues in our world. So, come along with us on this journey of faith, and let's rediscover the joy of the Christmas season together.

Ever wondered about the concept of being born again and the significant role it plays in the Christian faith? Well, let me assure you, we've got you covered in this week's episode of Renewed Mindsets. We take a deep, insightful look at this often misunderstood term and break it down into three comprehensible steps: dying spiritually with Christ on the cross, symbolically burying our old selves through baptism, and rising spiritually new as Christ did from the dead. From the story of Nicodemus to the clear-cut truth that being born again is not just a mental acknowledgement but active participation in following Jesus and his teachings, this episode is jam-packed with enlightening revelations.

What really is the essence of repentance, baptism, and salvation in the Christian faith? This is another juicy topic we'll be tackling. We'll guide you through the intricate role of Christs blood and water in cleansing our sins, and demystify the common misconceptions surrounding salvation. By drawing parallels to Old Testament practices of sacrifice and purification, we'll lay out a clear understanding of the gospel as taught by Jesus, Peter and Paul and the vital importance of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. Furthermore, we'll illustrate the significance of this understanding and obedience in salvation, using the example of the thief on the cross. Don't miss out on this revelatory discussion!

Ready to challenge your understanding of Christianity? Brace yourself as we embark on a journey to unveil the truth of Christianity and debunk the theories that question its validity. We'll break down our exploration into three critical aspects - the identity of Jesus, the rational compatibility of Christianity, and the questionable verifiability of other religious systems. We don't just scratch the surface; we dig deep to unearth the evidence for Jesus' divinity, miracles, and resurrection, as well as the historical and archaeological backup for the Bible.

But we're not stopping there! Hold onto your seats as we plunge into the intriguing world of comparative religion. You might be wondering, how does Christianity hold up against religions like Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, or the New Age movement? Well, we're going to tackle that head-on, dissecting the claims of these faiths and laying bare the reasons they can't be verified or lack rationality. We'll show you why Christianity, deeply rooted in the person of Jesus, stands tall amidst these faiths with the truth and evidence of God's inspiration. So, brace yourself for a thought-provoking discussion that will not only enlighten but also reinforce your faith in Christianity.

Are you ready to rewire your spiritual understanding? Brace yourself for a deep, philosophical dive into an intriguing question - why did a perfect God intentionally create a world destined for corruption? We dismiss the notions of God losing control or orchestrating chaos, and suggest instead, that God, with full knowledge of humanity's corrupt rebellion, chose to create our world anyway. Unravel this mystery with us as we present three conceivable explanations to this enigma, none of them definitive, but each thought-provoking in its own right.

Now, let's shift our focus to God's purpose behind creation and our role in it, reimagining our relationship with the Divine through the lens of free will. With insights from Ephesians, we explore God's ultimate goal for His Son's rulership and glory, and the seemingly paradoxical notion that God allowed sin's potential to foster a loving relationship with us. Illustrated through the parable of the prodigal son, we underscore the centrality of free will to our love for God. Wrapping up this fascinating discourse, we cordially invite you to embark on this journey of renewing our mindsets with us and share in the joy of this exploration. Stay tuned for a twist of humor in the Deep Thoughts segment as we envision a world without war and hate. Gear up for an episode packed with spiritual enlightenment, a hearty laugh, and a fresh perspective!

Scripture Used In This Episode:

Psalm 107:1
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good!
    His faithful love endures forever.

1 Timothy 4:4
Since everything God created is good, we should not reject any of it but receive it with thanks.

James 1:17
Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow

Luke 15:11-24

Parable of the Lost Son

11 To illustrate the point further, Jesus told them this story: “A man had two sons.12 The younger son told his father, ‘I want my share of your estate now before you die.’ So his father agreed to divide his wealth between his sons.

13 “A few days later this younger son packed all his belongings and moved to a distant land, and there he wasted all his money in wild living. 14 About the time his money ran out, a great famine swept over the land, and he began to starve. 15 He persuaded a local farmer to hire him, and the man sent him into his fields to feed the pigs. 16 The young man became so hungry that even the pods he was feeding the pigs looked good to him. But no one gave him anything.

17 “When he finally came to his senses, he said to himself, ‘At home even the hired servants have food enough to spare, and here I am dying of hunger! 18 I will go home to my father and say, “Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you,19 and I am no longer worthy of being called your son. Please take me on as a hired servant.”’

20 “So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him. 21 His son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son.[a]’

22 “But his father said to the servants, ‘Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. 23 And kill the calf we have been fattening. We must celebrate with a feast, 24 for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.’ So the party began.

This episode is about the significance of our voices as a gift from God. It emphasizes the power of voice, your mouthpiece, and the responsibility to use it intentionally. The narrative underscores the uniqueness of each voice, urging individuals to steward this gift for God's purposes.

The text delves into the parable of the talents, highlighting the importance of actively using and investing the gifts bestowed upon us. It emphasizes pursuing spiritual gifts passionately, aligning priorities with the spiritual over the natural, and seeking eternal rewards.

The author encourages a perspective shift toward an eternal focus, quoting Jonathan Edwards, "Stamp eternity on my eyeballs." The overarching purpose is declared: to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. This involves using one's voice to exalt Christ, share the gospel, and bring glory to God in all circumstances.

The narrative also addresses the practical aspects of using one's voice, such as teaching, comforting, and speaking up for those who can't. The call to intentional, strategic use of our voices is reinforced, emphasizing its potential for good or evil.

Ultimately, the episode urges individuals not to waste the precious gift of their voice, reminding them of the responsibility that comes with it. It encourages using one's voice to build up the church, share personal experiences, and glorify God in all aspects of life.

"Welcome to the sixth episode of our discipleship series, titled 'Obedience in a Disobedient World.’
In this episode, we delve into the profound significance of obedience in our relationship with God. We explore how obedience is not only a divine calling but also an act of worship, serving as the cornerstone of our salvation. Obedience sets us apart as beloved children of God and demonstrates our love for Him. As we embrace obedience with the primary motive of expressing our love for God, we open the door for Him to reveal Himself to us and unleash His transformative power in our lives. Join us on this journey of faith and obedience."

Leading Scripture:

Deuteronomy 28:1–14 (NLT): “If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully keep all his commands that I am giving you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the world. 2 You will experience all these blessings if you obey the Lord your God:
3 Your towns and your fields
will be blessed.
4 Your children and your crops
will be blessed.
The offspring of your herds and flocks
will be blessed.
5 Your fruit baskets and breadboards
will be blessed.
6 Wherever you go and whatever you do,
you will be blessed.
7 “The Lord will conquer your enemies when they attack you. They will attack you from one direction, but they will scatter from you in seven!
8 “The Lord will guarantee a blessing on everything you do and will fill your storehouses with grain. The Lord your God will bless you in the land he is giving you.
9 “If you obey the commands of the Lord your God and walk in his ways, the Lord will establish you as his holy people as he swore he would do. 10 Then all the nations of the world will see that you are a people claimed by the Lord, and they will stand in awe of you.
11 “The Lord will give you prosperity in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you, blessing you with many children, numerous livestock, and abundant crops. 12 The Lord will send rain at the proper time from his rich treasury in the heavens and will bless all the work you do. You will lend to many nations, but you will never need to borrow from them. 13 If you listen to these commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today, and if you carefully obey them, the Lord will make you the head and not the tail, and you will always be on top and never at the bottom. 14 You must not turn away from any of the commands I am giving you today, nor follow after other gods and worship them.

John 14:23–24 (NLT): 23 Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them. 24 Anyone who doesn’t love me will not obey me. And remember, my words are not my own. What I am telling you is from the Father who sent me.
