Middle-income Australians, including professionals and essential workers, are feeling the squeeze, with those earning $70,000 spending over half their income on rent. Even people on $100,000 are facing rental stress in many areas.

Azize warns that the crisis is forcing people to delay major life decisions and hurting communities. She calls on the government to boost social housing and scrap tax breaks for investors, arguing that housing should be affordable for all.

“Ahead of the election, the Federal Government must treat housing as its top
priority. Without action more Australians will continue to be priced out of living in
safe, decent, affordable homes.”
