For the first segment of today’s show, Friday host Esty Dinur shares her recent interview with Representative Mark Pocan about what he’s been up to in Congress.

Then, Dr. Jo-Marie Burt joins to talk about the recently elected Pedro Castillo, who is making history as Peru’s first “peasant” president.

Congressman Mark Pocan has been serving as the U.S. Representative for Wisconsin’s second congressional district since 2013, after fourteen years in the Wisconsin State Assembly.

He currently serves on the House Appropriations Committee, where he sits on the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Subcommittee; the Agriculture, Rural Development, and Food and Drug Administration Subcommittee; and the Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee. He also serves on the House Education and Labor Committee and the Joint Economic Committee.

Jo-Marie Burt is associate professor of political science at the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University. She is a senior fellow at the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA) specializing in state violence, human rights, and transitional justice, with a focus on Peru and Guatemala.
