Adrian Haigh (Addy) to his friends of 5foot16 Exotics had some incredible morphs of Ball Pythons available for sale at the Canadian Reptile Breeders Expo this year. I loved the White Tiger morph personally, what really got me though. Adrian has a different attitude about snakes than most people I have met within the community. Dr. DeRisi Howard Hughes Medical Investigator & Post Doctoral Fellow Mark Stenglein who published Identification, Characterization, and In Vitro Culture of Highly Divergent Arenaviruses from Boa Constrictors and Annulated Tree Boas: Candidate Etiological Agents for Snake Inclusion Body Disease which was published in the American Society for Microbiology caused somewhat of a stir in the reptile community. However, this stir was unfounded and was actually a result of poor journalism. As is often the case many in the reptile community and public at large both didn’t read the actual paper but based their judgements on what was reported in the news agencies. That being said, we asked Dr. DeRisi and Mr. Stenglein to come on the show and clarify just what this paper meant to the reptile community.

So here we are again, I had done a previous podcast and there were some technical issues with it so I re-recorded a new edition of the Return of the Reptile Living Room which is what you see here. There has been a lot of changes in my life as of late. Some of you may know & some of you may not. In October of 2011 I contracted bacterial meningitis. For those unfamiliar with this wonderful disease it’s a real dangerous beast. The attending physician said to me on the 3rd day of my hospital stay “Another day and you would have been in the morgue instead of the emergency room.” That was a very eye opening experience. I was out of work for a month and needless to say my perspective changed. Fast forward to May of 2012 and it was becoming obvious that the corporate job I held for 8 years was quickly declining. As it so happens in that same month I separated from my former wife and was terminated from the job in the same week which you can read about here in another FaceBook Note.
