Duration: Treatment often takes several months or up to a year for a healthy nail to fully regrow.

Nail fungus is caused by microscopic organisms called fungi that invade the nail or the skin underneath it through tiny cracks or cuts. Main Organisms That Cause Infection

Dermatophytes: These fungi cause up to 90% of all nail infections, especially on the toes. They are the same group responsible for athlete’s foot. 

Yeasts: Yeasts like Candida cause a smaller percentage of infections and are more likely to affect fingernails, often after damage from excessive moisture or hand washing. Non-dermatophyte molds can also invade the nail plate, though they account for a small fraction of cases.

Telogen Effluvium: A temporary form of excessive hair shedding triggered by severe stress, childbirth, major illness, or nutritional gaps. 

Scarring Alopecia (Cicatricial Alopecia): Rare inflammatory conditions (like lichen planopilaris or frontal fibrosing alopecia) that destroy hair follicles and replace them with scar tissue, leading to permanent loss.
