You would be hard-pressed to find someone in Arizona who couldn’t share a vivid memory of Pat McMahon – either as a talk show host interviewing the likes of Muhammad Ali and Barack Obama to Mother Teresa and Mick Jagger, or maybe as the host of his internet program “The God Show.” They might have attended an event he was emceeing, where he has helped worthy organizations raise millions of dollars.

Chances are though, they know him from his 30 years on the longest-running live children’s show, “Wallace and Ladmo,” where he played Gerald and a host of other memorable characters.

Pat was literally born into the entertainment business to parents who were lifelong Vaudevillians. He went on the road with them at 5, and he’s been touching lives ever since, bringing joy through entertainment, raising funds, causing people to think about the things that matter, and making the world a better place with his gracious heart and sharp wit.

Jason Barlow took the skills he developed as a U-2 reconnaissance pilot and throughout the rest of his career to lead the nation’s most successful Habitat for Humanity affiliate.

That’s no small feat, considering there are 1,200 affiliates in the U.S. (not to mention others in 70 countries around the globe). When Timothy and Janepher Kakooza moved to Katosi on the shore of Lake Victoria in Uganda, they planned to establish a church. What they found when they got to the fishing village was crushing poverty, unschooled children, and orphans who lost their parents due to AIDs.

Before they knew it, there were 25 children living in their home alongside their own four. As they continued to meet the needs of the children and the community, they started not only the church, but an orphanage, school, and medical clinic.

Today, they feed and school 848 children every day; nearly half of which are orphans who live at the facility.

In a short period of time Cindy Humes lost her beloved husband Lee to COVID and her mother also passed away. Her grandson was born prematurely at 26 weeks, and her daughter was very ill. It was an overwhelming season of loss.

But she had a purpose. Twenty years ago, she and her husband had opened Deep Within Rehab, a self-supporting men’s residential drug and alcohol recovery facility.

And those men were depending on her.

This is not just a story of one person overcoming loss, but a much larger tale of lives saved, changed and redeemed. As Cindy says, “Often, we get caught up in figuring out every moment, but we need to step back and see God's plan.”

Jeff Berggren earned three bachelor degrees: in radio and TV broadcasting, business administration, and public relations. That combination helped make him the perfect person to open a location for Huntington University in Arizona.

The main campus of the university is in Huntington, IN, where Jeff served as Chief Enrollment Officer for 21 years before being asked to lead the team to start Huntington University Arizona. Classes opened in 2016 with programs offered in film production, animation, broadcast media, and graphic design. The school has attracted national attention, including 23 awards at the 2022 Broadcast Education Association Festival of Media Arts. The digital media arts program is ranked third in the country just six years after opening.

Jeff is fully committed to the success of Huntington University Arizona. He moved his family out here, his parents followed, and he has thrown himself into community service.

Pastor José González is one of those people “everyone” in the community knows, but ask each of those people what he does and you will get a wide range of answers.

That’s because José has touched lives in many ways. He is the founder of the Annual Law Enforcement and Firefighters Prayer Breakfast. He has coordinated large events including evangelistic crusades, Christian concerts, and training events for Hispanic churches. He is a hospice chaplain. He’s authored three books. Most of all, though, he has been a bridge between the Anglo and Hispanic faith communities and local government.

Life has its challenges, but it’s how we handle them that makes the difference. David Blakeslee started out with a lot of those challenges, ranging from homelessness to addiction.

Fortunately, his story didn’t end there.
