Norman Wagner, Alvin B. and Julia O. Stiles Professor of Chemical Engineering, delivers his inaugural lecture as a named professor. The lecture, "Colloids and Polymers: Nanostructured Materials and Some Applications in Nanotechnology," highlights Wagner's research in the field. He works in the areas of rheology, complex fluids, nanotechnology and particle technology and leads a research effort in modeling nanostructured materials by molecular modeling. Wagner, who earned his doctoral degree at Princeton University, was a National Science Foundation/NATO postdoctoral fellow in Germany and a director's postdoctoral fellow at Los Alamos National Lab before joining the UD faculty in 1991. In 2002, he received the Siple Award from the U.S. Army for his development of shear thickening fluids, liquids that harden instantly on impact and have potential uses in such materials as military body armor.
