  • Rebuilding 021 with Scott Aaron
Find your Pick and Your Axe.
    Fear is a Choice
You should be leaving your legacy Now!
    From Scott:
Well, I would say two things, fears of choice. So that's number one, you know, we choose to be fearful, you know, and it's about living in the future.
And you know, we create stories all the time and we can't allow those stories in our head to dictate how our life ends up going.
And again, it's really easy with what is being facilitated on social media.
What's being facilitated in the news it's it's really easy to get sucked into that drama and the the the fear that is being instilled out there. But again, it's your choice.
You can either be live in fear, or you can be enlightened, and you can be excited about this time and I know people may be listening to that and saying, How the hell can you be excited about the time right now?
Well, What I can tell you is that, you know, opportunity knocks in the most inopportune times. Absolutely. And, you know, a lot of people may feel that we're we're in this this dark tunnel right now.
But the one thing that I can tell you if you know anything about tunnels, there's always a light at the end of it. That's right. And as long as we keep moving forward, we're going to get to where we want to be. And so number one is don't give in to the fear number two, is really seek to pull all the positives out of this current situation that you can. Whether it's you're cooking more at home than you ever did before, you're not you're not ordering in, you're not like ordering out you're not going through drive thru.
You're paying more attention to your your hygiene than you ever had before. You're spending more quality time with your kids, your your your You're being more socially interactive, you're, you're finding new ways to communicate with your family, whether it's through Skype or zoom or FaceTime, you're being very intentional with prayer or gratitude or your faith, you're, you're just so much more present, you're stopping to smell the roses, the air is cleaner pollution has diminished.
You know, money is not ruling the world right now, all these things that if you start thinking about them, there have been some positives. From all of this. Every positive has a negative, every negative has a positive, and you can choose to focus on either one of those.
So even though there absolutely has been some negative things that have happened with this, I still to choose, I still choose to focus on the half the glass being half full, instead of being half empty. So I try to find the best and the the victories and the lessons and the positives, no matter what's going going on in the world.

  • Rebuilding 016 Friendship
A man killed himself the other day.
Oh, how sad. Did he have a family?
I would usually ask when someone delivered this all too frequent news. But this one was different. This man I knew his name was Jeremy. I am sad to say I didn't know him as well as I would have liked. I was thought he could be a good friend. We belong to the same group that served other men.
He was a leader and a great example to all he lifted everyone he met. His smile was infectious. I met his wife at one event. They were a perfect match, handsome with beautiful, happy and healthy. He was a father. I met his son. He had three other kids, but I didn't know that until I saw it on Facebook. He drove a nice truck and he had a boat. He golfed a lot. I knew he did something in construction, but we never talked about it. I would describe him as a man's man. He was present at every event we held except for a recent meeting when he sent his regrets because it was his wife's birthday picture, perfect life, and now he's dead. He always asked everyone how they were doing, and he listened intently while they shared. I don't remember asking him how he was doing.
I mean like really asking. It was obvious that he was great. At least I thought so. I don't know what happened or what went through his head to make him think this was a good idea. I suppose. I never will. What I do know is that I didn't ask. I did slap him on the back as he talked about his latest golf trip. We talked at length about the men in his small mastermind group and how they were doing. We talked about all the effort he was putting into pulling everyone out of their isolation. We talked about him taking on bigger leadership role with our men's group, but we never talked about him.
I work with dozens of men and I'm a good listener. I asked tough questions that others shy away from. I have made a difference in many lives because I care. I am committed more than ever to be the hand for my brother's reaching through the dark. But with Jeremy, I didn't ask. I'm not trying to say that I could have said something that would have prevented this tragedy, but there are so many of you that I am much closer to that I can make a difference with. And there are those in your life that you can make a difference with. On the flip side, when I ask you how you're doing, like really ask you, please just tell me the truth. I promise to do the same.

  • Rebuilding 014 Be Grateful
Be grateful. No matter how awful your life seems at the moment, you have something to be grateful for. Focus on it with the laser-like, single-minded devotion of a dog eyeing a porterhouse.
You have been granted 2 billion seconds on this planet, give or take. You are a billionaire! Many billionaires, however, squander most of their fortune on bitter recriminations about how unfair everything is. Many of them are right, and it really is unfair. But you won’t get a refund from the universe for the time you spent brooding about the unfairness. You lose them just as surely as a second spent experiencing joy, only they don’t even give you something nice to remember them by.
Megan McArdle After 45 Birthdays, Here Are ‘12 Rules for Life’

Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful.”
