Resilient Humans Episode 12: Reacting vs Responding

There's a big difference between reacting and responding. When you react, you're usually acting out of emotion and not thinking clearly. But when you respond, you're taking the time to think through your options and choose the best course of action.

Here are four ways to help you respond instead of react:

- Breathe: Take a few deep breaths before you do or say anything. This will help you clear your head and make better decisions.

- Ask questions: When something happens that triggers an emotional response, ask yourself some questions before reacting. What is the situation? What are my options? What are the potential consequences of each option?

- Identify your triggers: Be aware of what situations that you may encounter ahead of time. How can you plan to respond to them when they arise?

-Using a mantra: Choose a phrase or word that you can repeat to yourself in times of stress. This will help you focus and make better decisions.
