I’m not normally known as the sugar-coated coach. Or the guy that fluffs up the edges to make it a little softer.
If you’ve listened to me for a while, you know I’m all about telling the truth—even when it’s inconvenient. Because avoiding uncomfortable truths is exactly what keeps people stuck, spinning their wheels year after year, despite working hard and meaning well.
In this episode of Resilient Humans, I’m sharing eight inconvenient truths about fitness and nutrition—the ones that might sting a bit, but can absolutely change your results, and your life, if you’re willing to face them.
These aren’t textbook theories. They’re lessons I’ve learned from real people in the gym, my coaching practice, and my own life. And I’m bringing stories to show how these truths play out—and how facing them leads to real, lasting change.
Here’s what we cover:
✅ Alcohol is ruining your progress. You might think your couple glasses of wine a night aren’t a big deal—but those calories (and the impact on sleep and cravings) add up fast.
✅ You keep taking seasons off, so you never build momentum. There’s no “perfect time” of year to stay consistent. Progress happens when you keep showing up—even during busy seasons.
✅ Your workouts burn fewer calories than you think. Sorry, but that donut wipes out your treadmill session faster than you’d like. Fat loss happens mostly in the kitchen.
✅ Sleep matters more than your supplements. No greens powder or fat burner will fix what 5 hours of sleep destroys. Prioritize rest—it’s the ultimate recovery tool.
✅ Most people underestimate how much they eat. Those “little bites” and handfuls add up. Track honestly for a few days and you might be shocked.
✅ You definitely need more protein. Especially if you want to lose fat, preserve muscle, and stay full. Aim for 1-2 palm-sized portions at every meal.
✅ If you’re injured, you don’t have to completely stop exercising. There’s always something you can safely do to keep moving forward. That’s true resilience.
✅ Nobody’s coming to save you. Waiting for the perfect time won’t work. Your health is your responsibility—and that’s incredibly empowering.
These truths might feel inconvenient… but they’re the key to getting unstuck and finally making real progress.
If any of these hit home for you today, pick just one and take a small step in the right direction. Because resilience isn’t about being perfect—it’s about showing up, even when it’s hard.
