Restless Hearts

In this episode, Garret interviews Phil Lewis (High School Ministry Director at University Presbyterian Church in Seattle) to contextualize a broad spectrum of ideas ranging from nature to critical theories and contemplative spirituality.

The team hashes out the different experiences that can be a catalyst for deconstruction, how you can be productive with your questions and doubts, and the essential question you need to answer as you’re determining the truth you want to live out of.

This week's episode turns into a bit of a therapy session as the team talks about the lies we believe about God and ourselves and how to combat them.

How do we navigate the tension between cancel culture and accountability? How much should we judge people for their past mistakes? Is there a way we can learn from the life of Jesus?

Josh, Molly, Kenna and Garret ask what happens if, instead of creating a sexual ethic that starts with behavior modification, we create a sexual ethic that starts with Jesus. Is it even ok to ask if Jesus had sexuality. We get into it this week and it is pretty fun.

The Restless Hearts team talks about the origins of purity culture and how it became a church movement and addresses the ways it represents a misunderstanding of God and his design for sexuality.

Anh Johnson, Kua Guevara, Fred Hartsook and Garret Shelsta talk about what it is like as AAPI Pastors in the American church. Spoiler alert: Some of it is hard and some of it is really good but it is mainly just really hard.

Our lives are full of decisions. The Restless Hearts team says that God's plan for us is not a mystery. We talk about how you can know that and discern how to make important life decisions.

The Restless Hearts team talks about the fears and barriers around conflict. We also give some tips to enter into conflict well so we can cultivate the relationships that we truly desire.

This week the team dives into one of the easiest theological ideas to explain ... the Trinity. If you have ever wanted to know why God is "Love", why we as humans crave community or why we can talk about having a relationship with God, this is the episode for you. Come on this journey with us.
