Deceitful ideas feed our disordered desires but this does not need to lead to the normalization of sin. Instead, discipline your desires, curb some of your wants and cultivate others and experience the ability to resist the enemies of your soul. Because every action has a reaction and the reaction is always disproportionate to the action. Small compromises turn into big consequences. Conversely, seemingly insignificant acts of good have a way of turning into unexpected, oversized blessings.

Jesus asked his first disciples a simple but profound question: What do you want? This is still the question for today. What do you want? Because the way we respond informs how we live in the world. Our wants, reflect our loves, and our loves determine how we interact with the world around us.

To resist is to push back, to oppose, to come against! In the spiritual sense, as Christian teachers have taught for centuries, our opposition is toward the WORLD, the FLESH, and the DEVIL. We must stand up and push back! Not as rebellion but, rather, an unwillingness to bend to every whim and desire of the enemies of our soul. This is a critical conversation because our spiritual health and vitality depend on our response and ensuing action. So, we RESIST! We declare war on the very things that keep us from thriving. Becoming stronger than we thought possible because of the Spirit of God in us! We declare RESISTANCE!

Maybe you, like the woman caught in adultery (John 8), are caught in the judgments and opinions of man? Perhaps. But, like Jesus saw this woman, He sees you! He sees beyond your past to your potential, knows the work He has for you to do, and is saying, “Let’s go!”

We also want to pause this Memorial Day weekend and remember those who died serving our country. We remember, with honor and respect, their bravery and selflessness.
