We're made for community. But what kind of community does God have in mind for us? Today, we look at three healthy aspects of community according to the New Testament as well as tackling one common objection that many have.

We're often (and rightly) told that God created us to be in relationship with him. But in the beginning God also created Eve because it was not good for Adam to be alone. Therefore, we're created to be in relationship with God and others. This is seen all through the Biblical story and emphasised by Jesus. We're not meant to do life on our own. We are created for community.

This message exposits 1 John 3:1-2, where a Christian’s adoption into the family of God and their transformation is discussed. Listeners will see that adoption is far more relational than judicial and gives the believer great assurance of God’s familial love. The resulting, and future transformation at the return of Christ is also discussed, where the believer is encouraged to look upon and contemplate the person of Christ.

Christmas is a time filled with family, gifts, and food. However, amidst the chaos of all the events, it is easy to forget the significance of Christmas. It is the day that God took on flesh and came to dwell with his people, all to make a way for right relationship to be restored.

In the beginning God walked with Adam and Eve in the garden. He created them for uninterrupted, intimate relationship with him. He was more committed to it than they were. So, when humanity fell God went about restoring all things so that he might dwell with his people again, forever.

Ruth’s story during the time of the judges brings hope in darkness. What starts off as tragedy moves through drama and romance and ends with joy. But Ruth’s story is bigger than just her. God uses Ruth and Boaz to bring about the bigger story: The redemption of the world through Jesus Christ. It’s the bigger story of redemption that gives meaning to our lives.

Jesus’ incarnation in the gospels is not the beginning of the story. The story started long before that. If we truly want to understand Christmas we need to go back before we go forward. In this sermon we will take a bird’s eye view of the Old Testament story in order to understand the saviour better.

Seeing Jesus as he truly is pulls you out of the world, changes you, and aligns you with him and his purposes. Anyone who has seen him like this knows from personal experience how wonderful this process is.

What comes to mind when you hear the word family? Everyone has an answer because we are all part of one. Whether your earthly family is a source of joy or pain, there’s an invitation to belong to something far greater—the family of God. This family isn’t entered through effort or association but through faith in Jesus Christ as Lord. As we explore Matthew 12, we’ll see that Jesus extends this invitation to everyone. The question is, will you accept it?
