Sept 27, 2026 • Ryan Welsh • Malachi 1:1-5
Malachi is the concise last book of the Old Testament, but its message is anything but small. The message of Malachi is loud. God brings charges against His people who have grown apathetic in half-hearted faith. The people had returned from exile, rebuilt the temple, and resumed the rhythms of worship, yet their hearts had cooled. Priests offered the Lord their sick and blemished leftovers, husbands broke covenant with their wives, and families withheld their offerings. Underneath it all, lay a corrosive doubt— a suspicion that God’s love and justice could no longer be trusted.
The Lord, through the prophet Malachi, refuses to let this apathy go unnamed. He confronts His people’s excuses point by point, exposing worship that costs them nothing. Yet judgment is not the final word. God reaffirms His unchanging love and calls His people to return, promising that a messenger will come to prepare the way — a forerunner of the Lord Himself, bringing the “sun of righteousness” and healing in His wings.

At Restoration Church, we preach through books of the Bible, alternating between books from the Old and New Testaments. Occasionally, instead of preaching through a single book, we’ll focus on a specific topic that our elders feel is important for our church family.
Restoration Church is a Southlake, Texas, authentic, Gospel-centered church community focused on loving God, loving others, and making disciples everywhere.
