Our favorite quotes from this episode:
”Restoration can’t grow in the soil of deception.”
“I needed a safe place in the church to talk about my sexuality.”
“You can’t get right with each other until you both get right with God.”
Today Josh and Jaelyn share their incredible story of restoration. Josh describes what it was like to struggle with his sexuality at a young age while having know where safe to process his feelings and questions. He married Jaelyn while still struggling with same-sex attraction and pornography, which later led to emotional affairs. Jaelyn shares how she also carried sexual brokenness and previous trauma into the relationship, which enhanced the pain they needed to work through. When we asked what started their journey to restoration, they shared how Christ was at the center of it all, leading them to their own freedoms and reconnecting them through the pain and uphill journey. Check them out below! They are now using their powerful testimony to help other young couples find healing and restoration through their own ministry: Restoredliving.

Today Cory from Sexy Marriage Radio shares how God cares more about character development and maturity than our happiness. He elaborates on how great marriages are built when the good times stop rolling and the euphoria wears off. We asked about how to build sexual intimacy when the conversation is so uncomfortable? Cory responds by sharing how it's less about trying to fix a situation or try new exciting sex tactics but healing and recovering well from emotionally painful experiences to re-engage and have a fulfilling sex life.

The "purity" narrative, also called the traditional church narrative, gave a very limited view of sexuality. Many were impacted negatively as they grew into adulthood and entered marriage, bringing guilt over past decisions, shame from past abuse, or fear of enjoying the gift of intimacy in its intended context. Today, we talk with Lori about reframing the Purity narrative and understanding God's intended purpose for sex and sexuality. She shares the 4 R's; relationship, reasons, responsibility, and restoration needed to heal the narrative while also understanding God's design and intentions for sexuality.

Is there a safe place in the church to be confused about our sexuality? If we admit to a struggle with same-sex attraction, how will our fellow Christians view us? These are the questions Zach and Kate had while growing up in the church. In this episode, Zach and Kate share how we, the body of Christ, can learn to come alongside our brothers and sisters instead of making them feel shunned and unwelcome. Unfortunately, 86% of people who identify with the LGBTQ+ movement come from a religious background. They find more love, acceptance, and support in the LGBTQ+ community than in the body of Christ. Let’s change that by removing the stigma of it being a “worse sin,” admitting our own sin, and loving and supporting our church family amid their questions and struggles.

Louis leads conversations with young adults on contentious issues of sexuality with the goal of presenting the gospel. He has found that the biggest roadblock keeping young people from seeing Jesus and being open to the gospel is the understanding of sexuality. Unfortunately, many find the Bible and Christianity rigid, judgmental, and unloving towards others with a different sexual orientation. Louis has found that we are failing to demonstrate how the Bible is less focused on sexual restrictions ad more focused on the purpose of sex as it points to a higher purpose.

Unfortunately, many of us are set up to fail regarding sex in marriage. Noah shares how the purity culture led him to believe that if he saved himself sexually, sex in marriage would be utterly satisfying, effortlessly enjoyable, and fulfilling. When it wasn’t, he turned to God in frustration and begged to be given what he thought he deserved. Noah shares how his relationship with God transformed in this crisis and, through it all, became a writer, a better pastor, and ultimately a closer follower of Jesus.
