Descriptors of a Hardened Heart
In today’s message, the focus was on what a hardened heart actually looks like in everyday life.
A hardened heart often shows up as stubbornness, pride, and a refusal to change. Sometimes we soften the language and say someone is “set in their ways,” but in reality, that can point to a deeper spiritual issue.
Some common traits of a hard-hearted person include being:
Callous or unfeeling – lacking empathy or compassionStubborn and unyielding – unwilling to listen or changeRuthless or harsh – prioritizing self over othersUnforgiving – holding onto offense and bitternessInsensitive – unaware or unconcerned about others’ feelingsThese traits don’t just affect the individual—they impact relationships, creating distance, conflict, and emotional hurt.
The key takeaway is this:
If you consistently see these patterns in yourself or others, it’s a sign something deeper needs attention. A hardened heart doesn’t happen overnight—it develops over time through hurt, pride, and unresolved offense.
But the good news is that hearts can change. God can soften even the hardest heart when we’re willing to let go, forgive, and seek Him.
