  • The Curse of Clansmen and Kings

Where does a mystical tale of curses, clans, and kings come from?

This week, we sit down with author Linnea Tanner to talk about her series, The Curse of Clansmen and Kings. We dig into the lore and fantasy behind the story, the spark that started it, and what’s coming next for the series.

We also get a first look at her upcoming series and talk about her writing style: how she builds a world, shapes a story, and keeps readers turning pages.

If you love fantasy with deep roots, or you’re curious how an idea becomes a finished series, this one’s for you.

  • A Conversation with Joan Jacobson

Sassy club member Joan Jacobson joins us and tells the story of the time a Mormon woman beat her husband to become the first female Utah state senator. Joan proves that the idea for a story can come from anywhere, as she explains how the idea for one of her books—about Dr. Martha Hughes Cannon, polygamist's wife and senator—came about.

In a separate story, Joan shares how her latest book, Colorado Phantasmagoria, came about after a hike. Hear how the imaginings she had that afternoon now take us on a time-travel story ride, as we learn about Colorado figures who made big impacts on our world today.

  • The Book Shepherd

One of the hardest-working authors and mentors, Judith Briles—The Book Shepherd—joins us on this episode of Restricted by Corsets but Never Silenced. We talk about her milestone 49th book, which came out in August, and her 50th book dropping later this year—a number most authors never even dream of reaching.

She also takes us on a journey of how she became such a prolific writer and how she helps authors publish their own books. If you've ever thought about writing a book yourself, her story, and her advice, might be exactly the push you need. She hosts her own podcast, while also being a member of two book clubs.

  • What's in a name?

What is the Denver Woman's Press Club? Here we open with a passage from the centennial history book Women Who Made the Headlines of the Denver Woman's Press Club, reading from member Nancy Peterson's preface.

It captures the feeling of stepping into the club's small brick house on Logan Street—a place where the voices of women who came before seem to speak again through old letters, clippings, and archives.

It was this very passage—women "Restricted by Corsets but Never Silenced"—that inspired the name of this podcast.
