The House is moving forward with a Farm Bill that makes harmful changes to SNAP that would result in 2 million people losing all or part of their food assistance over the next decade. On the webinar, Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-3) joins us to talk about the Farm Bill and the impact it would have on Americans receiving food assistance through SNAP and how advocates can work to stop the legislation from becoming law. We also speak with RESULTS Expert on Poverty Yolanda Gordon about her experience with SNAP. Join us for the April 2018 RESULTS U.S. Poverty National Webinar . This month, we focus on the issue of systemic oppression and why and how RESULTS is working to address it. RESULTS wants to play an active role in calling out and dismantling systemic forms of oppression. On the webinar, we discuss RESULTS’ choice to make this a priority and the steps we have already taken to address both internally and in our advocacy work. Volunteers also get opportunity to learn more about how to recognize when oppression is occurring, understand the experiences of those affected, and think about the role they want to take to undo the structures that perpetuate it.

On the February 2018 RESULTS U.S. Poverty National Webinar, we are kicking off our exciting #LettersGetLOUD campaign, which aims to engage friends and allies in taking action to protect anti-poverty programs. With Medicaid, SNAP, and other programs facing threats, lifting up new voices is going to be critical to our success. To help us better understand the current threats, we are pleased to have Ana Hicks, State Strategies Manager at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, join us on the webinar. She overviews the latest from Congress and provides ideas for how to best speak to lawmakers about protecting these vital programs, particularly SNAP (formerly food stamps). Join us for the RESULTS U.S. Poverty National Webinar. As Congress negotiates a final tax bill, we are pleased to have Laura Peralta-Schulte of NETWORK as our guest speaker this month. She updates us on the latest about the tax bill, what impacts it could have on low-income populations in the U.S., and what we can do to stop it. We also celebrate some of your amazing successes in 2017 and look ahead to an important agenda in 2018 – one where we will need your voices more than ever.

With the House voting on their tax plan this week with the Senate to follow after Thanksgiving, we spend time reviewing what’s in these bills, their impact Americans in poverty, and what you can do to influence the process over the new few weeks. We are happy to have Rafael Collazo, Director of Political Campaigns at UnidosUS  (formerly the National Council of La Raza) as our guest speaker for the webinar. He talks to us about the new tax bills and their impact on low-income immigrant families. We also hear stories about how tax and anti-poverty programs benefit families we know in a “virtual roundtable” with our Experts on Poverty. We’ll also talk about the Virtual Thanksgiving Feast fundraising campaign.

On the September 2017 webinar, we highlight what the new U.S. Census poverty data says and talk about how you can use it to generate media and train others in your community to take action. We are also thrilled to have legendary civil rights activist and community organizer Heather Booth as our guest speaker. She shares her thoughts on how we can ensure that any tax bill Congress takes up this year is fair for all.

In the Senate, leaders are working hard to craft a health deal that at least 50 senators will support while the House is moving forward with a budget plan that could fast-track cuts to basic assistance programs, including SNAP and Medicaid. To help us navigate this terrain, we are thrilled to have our dear friend Debbie Weinstein, Executive Director of the Coalition on Human Needs, as our guest speaker. Debbie updates us on the health care state of play, helps us understand other threats to anti-poverty programs in the 2018 budget, and discusses how you can make a difference on these issues at the RESULTS International Conference and beyond.  We hear from Kali Daugherty, one of our Experts on Poverty, and you get a chance to meet our Grassroots Board nominees.

The House moved quickly on their American Health Care Act (AHCA), H.R. 1628, which passed on May 4, 217-213. To help us better understand these developments, Ellen Nissenbaum, Senior Vice President for Government Affairs at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, will join as our guest speaker this month. She’ll discuss the bill’s Medicaid changes and its impact on low-income Americans. She’ll also talk about what’s next as the bill moves to the Senate and how to stop the Medicaid changes from becoming law. We’ll also talk about the May Action with a role play of a call to a Senate health aide. Finally, we’ll review Group Planning in May, the RESULTS International Conference, and our upcoming Speak Up Friends & Family Fundraising Campaign.
