Listen to our true source of Advent Joy 

In an age of hyper-rushed news cycles, alternative facts, fake news, competing narratives, and conspiracies, how can we really know what is going on? How can we know who and what to trust? 

Holidays and the traditions that go with them often connect us to one anther, even across the passage of time. In Joshua 4, God commands the Israelites to set up a memorial so that future generations will be able to see and connect with what happened as God parted the waters to allow them to march into the promised land. This week as we gather together let us make sure to give our thanks directly to the giver of all good things. 

Do you want to believe? Wanting to believe and be able to believe are two very different things. In John 4, Jesus encounters a man desperately wanting to believe that Jesus will heal his son. And while Jesus offers him hope and belief, it's not in the way he expects.

We feel like following God should be clear and straightforward, but it doesn't always seem that way. Being Confused is a frustrating place, but meeting with Jesus really does bring clarity. 

We like hearing about the Jesus who fills us up and forgives us and cares for us. We don't always like to hear that we might be wrong or that Jesus doesn't always answer questions the way we want him to. But as we dig into this story in John 2, we'll see that we may not always get the Jesus we want, but we do actually get the Jesus we need. 

Jesus turning water into wine isn't just a mere party trick. Rather, this is Jesus taking the shame of failed hospitality and a failing party and turning it into the joy of an even greater celebration.
