As Resurrection Day approaches, I can't help but reminisce:

One day when I was eight years old, I went outside to play with my friends. When I went outside, everybody came running up to me, "Guess what?! Guess what?!"

I was like, "What?! What?!"

They bombarded me with the latest news, "Mrs. H got saved! Mrs. H got saved!"

My first question was, "Saved from what?"

One of the little boys said, "Saved from the devil."

And immediately I said, "Well, I want to be saved from the devil."

God heard my prayer. Less than two weeks later, I got saved. Hallelujah!

That was my full understanding - that when we got saved, we got saved from the devil. I believe that's a lot of other people's understanding, too.

I want you to know that while it is true that we get saved from the devil and from the power that he possesses - if we're happy just to get saved from the devil, we don't learn how to BE saved from the devil. We won't learn how to live so that the enemy's power doesn't have power over us. Because after all, we're happy we're going to heaven! Jesus died for our sins! We're happy we get to live with God forever!

But many times, we don't learn how to live on earth without going through hell until we get there. This results in people struggling with the idea of God and their salvation. They're like, "Why doesn't God help me? I thought life was supposed to be better as a Christian...."
