We cannot live a life that is pleasing to God without the fear of the Lord.  We cannot walk and live in wisdom without walking in the fear of the Lord. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.  Fear, meaning honor, respect, reverence, not afraid that you cannot please Him and therefore you will receive His wrath.  It is fear of the Lord in the fact that His awesomeness and majesty are so amazing and powerful that the only response is to fall down on your face in humility and worship Him.  Everything in this world or any other pale in comparison to Him!

God's mercy, kindness, love, and holiness are attributes that the world around us is shocked by.  They want it but cannot receive it because it too hard for them to belief that He is who He really says He is.  In a world of dishonesty, selfishness, and pride, God comes in and turns all that on it's head and for most of the world it's too hard to grasp.  But when we were lost and undone without Him He came and loved us into an intimate and powerful relationship with Him.  God is the one who does all that and more!
