God calls us to worship Him and he gives us instructions as to how to do so. How then, shall we worship God? Preached at St. Paul's Reformed Church, Meadville, PA

Every aspect of our lives should reflect our confidence in God and is evidence that we believe He will fulfill His promises. That even includes the way that we handle the death of loved ones, and that is reflected in Abraham's life in the way that he grieved and made arrangements for Sarah's burial. The care that he showed in making arrangements is evidence of his confidence in a future resurrection, when he and Sarah would both experience the fullness of God's magnificent promises to him of the land, an innumerable number of descendants, and being the source of blessing for the entire world. Our assurance of our Lord's return and our resurrection and glorification are demonstrated in the way that we look upon our death and those we care about.

In 1 Peter 1:13–25, believers are called to prepare their minds for spiritual action, remain sober-minded, reject worldly distractions, and pursue holiness. Instead of placing our hope in politics, media, or temporary earthly concerns, Peter commands us to set our hope fully on the future grace revealed through Jesus Christ. Pastor Mark Hogan teaches on Psalm 110:4, where Yahweh swears an unchangeable oath that the Messiah is 'a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek'—startling because Israel kept kingship (Judah) and priesthood (Levi) strictly separate, as King Uzziah's leprosy judgment showed. He outlines four covenantal functions of priests that meet humanity's deepest needs: atonement for sin, advocacy in God's presence, access to God, and covenantal blessing (Numbers 6), then shows Christ fulfills each: His once-for-all sacrifice atones, He ever lives to intercede (Romans 8; Hebrews 7), He grants access to the Father (Ephesians 2–3), and He mediates grace and peace. From Hebrews 1:3; 8:1; 10:11–14, he contrasts Levitical priests who stood daily offering repeated, ineffective sacrifices with Christ, who offered one sacrifice for sins forever and sat down—His atoning work finished, yet His mediation eternal through an indestructible resurrection life. Examining Genesis 14 and Hebrews 7, he shows Melchizedek as a type of Christ: king and priest at once, superior to Abraham, without succession, not Levitical.
